I just hope you don't have like 500 guests, it could get a little cramped, oh, beforwarned, paint pens take a few min to dry, so hopefully everything isn't smudged by the time your through.

That sounds like a great idea. I'd do it.

For what it's worth, when I worked in a guitar shop this girl came in with an autographed guitar that she wanted cleared and the guy said that if he cleared over the signatures there was a good chance they would smear. Before he was a tech he was a painter for Dean and Washburn so I assume he knows his stuff, but maybe he just didnt want the work.

.... or didn't know what the sigs were. Make sure they're all made with the same chemical forumlaton of pen, and the painter knows what clear is compatible. When painted the painter must know the first 2 coats should be "dust coats" to get a barrier of quicker drying very thin clear "dusted" on before shooting wet coats. It's the wet coats that will distort the signature as the solvents in it break the sigs down and make them run. Just look at the back of the "cleared sig LNG's" for a perfect example of what not to do.

That could've been it, it was a few years ago and I wasn't a direct part of the conversation. I just didnt think it was as simple as just throwing any clear on there after it was all signed.

Paint pen is no different. Put a wet coat on it and you will break it up as the solvents eat into it before they dry.
