Re: So has Family Guy.....

Family Guy "sold out" when the creators started accepting money in exchange for episodes. That is to say, they sold out "to begin with". I don't understand where all this criticism of selling out comes from. If artists didn't sell out, you wouldn't know about them.

Re: So has Family Guy.....

"refers to the compromising of one's integrity, morality and principles in exchange for money, 'success' or other personal gain. It is commonly associated with attempts to increase mass appeal or acceptability to mainstream society. A person who does this, as opposed to following the original path s/he laid (or claimed to lay) out for him/herself, is labeled a sellout and regarded with disgust and immediate loss of respect. Selling out is seen as gaining success at the cost of credibility. Every person, from the entertainment industry, to political revolutionaries, to a bohemian who suddenly switches to a socially conservative lifestyle, could be a sellout."

Basically throughout Family Guy, Seth is always making fun of commercialism and pop culture, just for him now to turn around and join it. He's now going down the dark path that has laid ruin to shows like the Simpsons.

oh well, thank god for shows like South park (who have yet to go even this far, thank you Matt and Trey for sticking with it), Metalocalypse \m/, Robot Chicken and Drawn Together...

Family Guy is cool. I don't care if it sold out as long as it makes me laugh, and I can't imagine it not doing so.

EDIT: OK watched it. How can anyone not laugh at Peter's laugh!!?

Well said. So what? they did a subway commercial. First off, this show was first aired as a Fox program, and it doesn't get any more sold out than that. They have contractual obligations as one of Fox's biggest shows. Whether you see it as plainly as it is, this is Seth's job. He has to do what he is told to even though he has a lot of creative control. Besides, i don't think they are really sell outs. They poke fun at Fox for canceling them out or having ****ty prime time television any chance they have.

Which reminds me, i was watching Family guy. cya later!

Re: So has Family Guy.....

You should watch Family Guy, at least.

And Jim, how are you brother? Everything cool after what went on a while back?

Other than legalities, good as gold

Re: So has Family Guy.....

Glad to hear it. Keep me updated, would you?

Yeah, kinda like SP, only completely different! SP is probably funnier. Family Guy takes slightly fewer risks. It's probably more like a late-nite version of the Simpsons.

Re: So has Family Guy.....

Ive actually found Family Guy to be funnier than South Park lately. I think South Park has kind of jumped the shark.

Re: So has Family Guy.....

Its basically an animated stand up show anyway, most of the jokes are unrelated to the (if present) storyline of the episode.

Just one of them shows they dont seem to put much thought into, i used to really like it, but its all the same now, he yaps on, goes off the rails, cracks an irrelevant joke then Stuey pulls out a little laser and trys to shoot brian/peter/louis.

Re: So has Family Guy.....

i was a big fan, but i find it to just be a yawn-fest now.

i don't go out of my way to tune in anymore, but if i happen to be around on a Sunday night, I'll flip onto it.

If you're looking to find out what all the fuss is about, get the first few season DVDs...

I think FG jumped the shark at Shipoopee. The musical numbers have taken over the show and go on entirely too long. It's just sad.

Re: So has Family Guy.....

Lots of people sell out. You might sell out too given the opportunity. IMO it just depends HOW you sell out.
Metallica becoming more "mainstream"; that's selling out! Bam Margerra and Steve O selling deodorant and gum; THAT'S selling out!
It's not a big stretch to imagine Peter Griffin liking Subway!
Family Guy and The Simpsons are still great. The Simpsons Movie is probably the funniest thing I saw in a theater since "Dumb and Dumber".
