The Sterling exchange rate really sucks!!!!!

I'm about to get my bonus from work and was thinking a treating myself to a new guitar (damn GAS )

The options were a JS1200 if I got an ok bonus or another Suhr if it was a really good bonus.

Anyway I was doing a quick search for a JS1200 in the usual UK web stores and noticed all the prices are mostly just under £1500, I was expecting them to be about £1000!!

Then I checked out the exchange and as shown in the link below Sterling has gone from Y215 = £1 to Y130 = £1. Buying from US offers no saving now either

I'm not happy at all !!! the only upside is my wife is pleased - I think she has plans for my bonus

You have my sympathy mate!!!

Pound to Euro is pitiful too!!! Over the counter rates to exchange holiday money are pretty much 1:1!!!!!

The pound is literally worth peanuts at the mo!! Just depends whether ya want salted or dry roasted!!

Re: The Sterling exchange rate really sucks!!!!!

Yeah, it goes both ways, I was in the USA a few months ago with 2 dollars to the pound, and I'm off this weekend with roughly half that now!

Then it was great, now it isn't, in a few years it'll be the other way around again

It's not a like temporarily drop or crash or anything. It was like 1,5 euro to a pound two years ago but it kept on dropping to about 1 euro to a pound now.

Today: 1 GBP = ZAR 14.54. That's the buy rate - if you want foreign exchange you'll be paying well over 15:1.

That means, in sterling, a beer will cost you between 30p retail and 95p at a pub here.

Peanuts? I'd give my left one for a couple of peanuts.....

That said, guitar prices in the UK and all over Europe are outrageous. Maybe it's just the discounts I get at my local pusher, but I doubt I could buy guitars cheaper outside the US or Japan.

Re: The Sterling exchange rate really sucks!!!!!

Import beer is usually expensive. I've been to France many times, but i've never payed more than 4 euro's for a beer, unless it was a belgium beer or something.

It was Chamonix which I guess isn't the cheapest place in the world, Heineken was being sold as the "standard" beer
