TIDAL WAVE TO HIT ENGLAND

Tidal wave heading for England's east coast poses 'extreme danger to life'
Last updated at 22:09pm on 8th November 2007

Tens of thousands of householders are today preparing for some of the worst coastal floods in decades.

Sea levels could rise up to 9ft this morning along part of the East Coast, putting lives at risk.

Sea defences in Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft could be breached around 7am, sending a torrent of salt water into the towns.

• Eight severe flood warnings issued by Environment Agency

• Surge expected to hit east coast in next 12 hours

• Police on standby to evacuate homes

• Dartford Creek and Thames barriers closed
************************************************
I hope all our English Jemsiters stay safe and dry!

Wouldn't be the first flood we've had this year...

Re: TIDAL WAVE TO HIT ENGLAND

dude wait what?

How could that happen? unless some part of Denmark collapsed into the sea?

Edit:

ahhh, the massive gales up north here have been making the sea go mental making large storm surges. Not the Tsunami image I had about denmark falling into the sea....

Hope everything pans out ok

The BBC link I have here is dated at 21:36 tonight, so just over an hour old. It could be coming still.

Yes.. I realized that on that side of the pond 8/11 means the 8th of November... On this side it would read that as August 8th

Re: TIDAL WAVE TO HIT ENGLAND

It looks like it's all over now. There were some breaches of the sea defenses particularly on the Norfolk coast, but fairly minor flooding as the levels were lower than predicted.

Re: TIDAL WAVE TO HIT ENGLAND

Tidal waves in Britain? Pah, woosie weather. We get 'em all the time! We're so used to bad weather we consider blizzards to be shorts-and-t-shirt weather.

'87, currently in sunny Jockland (Brrrr...)

Re: TIDAL WAVE TO HIT ENGLAND

Not just Great Britain, but also the Netherlands!

Luckily it's a storm in a glass (dutch saying that someone makes a big fuss about nothing)

It's always tough weather here in the Netherlands. I grew up in a coastplace and believe me. There was always wind and cold in the air.

Ahh.. the good old cold days
