What about wii?

Well, Im intrigued by this machine. I ve already own an XBOX360, and after seeing the PS3 releases (that look just about the same as XBOX360) I was wondering if the Wii makes more sense as a second gaming console.

I dont care about crossplatform games con wii because I know that wii cant compete at all with the processing power and graphic capabilities of the 360 or the PS3, but I was atracted to the wii sport concept.

This far, the games Im interested in are:

Rayman Raving Rabbids
Excite Truck
Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz
Wii Sports

So.... have you tried it? Is it really a different expierience? Its it fun? Is it worth it?

I can't wait, I'm going to get it for the party aspect alone. The fact that you have to work up a sweat whilst playing appeals because I'd rather be active than parking my behind whilst playing

Re: What about wii?

Wii kicks some serious ass. I plan on waiting till summer to get one. The price'll go down a bit and There will be more games. The price is much more reasonable than what Sony and Microsoft are asking for their machines... I just think more than $250 is way too much for a game console.

Re: What about wii?

I picked up a Wii last Wednesday (and I didn't pay more than the retail...they are out there if you look) and have been playing it pretty much every day since. The GF just loves the wii sports bowling (becuase she beats me 95% of the time) which is good because for the longest time she has been telling me that video games are pretty much a waste of time...but now her attitude has changed. I bought Trauma Center: Second Opinion, Red Steel, Monkey Ball and Zelda. All are good except for monkey ball which I will trade it tomorrow towards Metal Slug Anthology. I'm very happy with the system except that I'm getting extremely pissed off that it won't connect to the internet no matter what I try to do.

WHERE?! I've been hunting for ages and can't find one. They have to be willing to ship to an APO box, too. Damn it, I am NOT paying English prices just because the base I am at get about 2 in.

Mylo, I found one locally (in the NC boonies) but you being in GB really limits your choices. Are you in the military? I am, and if you are as well (or a dependant) you should be able to order one from the AAFES website when they get restocked.

Re: What about wii?

My buddy picked up a Wii. Last weekend he had a few couples over and all of the girlfriends, who aren't gamers mind you, loved it. I think the controller adds a fun factor for most people.

I really only played the sports games. They were all pretty cool but really bare bones feature wise. They would probably get old quickly. I watched my friend play Zelda. It seemed pretty rad.

Re: What about wii?

my nephew got one for his birthday. looked like a gamecube with the special/gimmick controller to my eyes. on a large HDTV it would look attrocious. one lame thing is it doesnt' play DVDs (very peculiar as he got a few DVDs for his bday and now cant play them on the wii) and has only wifi no ethernet port (we wanted to hook it up right to a router in the room and bypass wireless security hassle.).

at $250 you really expect alot more as a paying customer. i mean parlor games are free on yahoo.com.

i don't see any longevity in the system, but given it's price relative to PS3 it might have some legs.... seems like it will give 360 a huge jolt though (similar cost, much better graphics, traditional controller, multimedia angle, etc.)

that said, his gameboy DS is awesome with the touch screen and good games for all ages. ...glen

OK, I take my comment back. Seems like Nintendo didn't pull themselves together .

Re: What about wii?

just so people know, nintendo leaked they are releasing a new wii early/middle of next year that will have a regular dvd player built in, no word on a add on for the currently sold wii's that i know of though, also it is a common problem getting it to connect to the internet with a google search you may find more about it. Also as glen noticed you have to use wireless to connect, no option for regular LAN type connections.

Re: What about wii?

that is rediculous... it has a dvd drive but can't play dvds. at least sell some dongle or remote to allow dvd movie playback. my nephew should have passed on nintendo and bought a 360 core for $50 more. i mean, if you have a DS how many "nintendo" games do you really want anyways. nevermind it won't do HDTV or hookup to a nice computer monitor and drive it at native resolution.

i can tell you this, nintendo must be making $100-125 profit on every box they sell.... the hardware is basically identical to the cube except 512GB flash drive ($8 item) and the wifi ($5 minipci) and the sensor bar. price should have been $179 with pack-in game and even that would have been too much.

simple amazing... glen

+1
And dont get me wrong, I love Nintendo as a company. But this console isnt exactly going to break any barriers is it? lol. It does have some nice ideas/features that can be built on for future machines though. So its not all a loss.

For me there is no "console war", because the xbox360 will wipe the floor with everything. Pfffftt PS3, no chance. Its all too little too late from Sony. I think the machine looks horrid, and after constant delays on the European PAL circuit, they will not be getting 1 penny of money.

Xbox360 rules all.
HD Gear of War anyone? Yes please!
