Do You Watch Your Neck When You Play?

There are only two kinds of players:

Those who stand still and look at their necks while playing.
Those who jump around, go crazy and look at the crowd and wail without looking at their neck.

Which one are you and why?

I had to check "don't look at my neck" because I typically don't. But I don't move around on stage much either.

Shreddy stuff probably involves looking

For riffy bits its usually just a glance down to make sure I'm in the right spot then it just comes out of my hands

Same for me...
Typically don't need to watch what I'm doing, but a glance now and then for two reasons...

1) As stated above by Thesimo-Just to make sure

2) The vines are so damn beautiful you gotta look once in a while!!!

I'm still a noob who is beginning to be able to look away from the fretboard (after four years of playing!).

For big streches, fast movements, tapping, etc. you really have to look at the neck if you don't want to start sounding like garbage.

for simple melodies or runs that don't cover much fretboard space you shouldn't need to.
Often all you need is an occassional 1 second glance. I really like looking at my fingers though.

Having studied Petrucci's "Rock Discipline", I have to look down to ensure I don't shred too fast.

If I shred at maximum speed people die. They just die.

Looking at your neck while you play? Imagine that! Man! That's talent! No wonder Steve Vai called that album of his Flex-Able.

Mhh, I don't think is physically possible to look at your neck without using a mirror. You can look at yor guitar's neck. which sometimes I do and sometimes I don't.

Difficult bits get a quick check; awkward chords, sweeps and stuff. The rest is no problem.
