I use nylon Jazz IIIs. I've heard Dunlop's going to start to make Ultex ones, and I might try those.

They're already making them, I have one. Very nice. I hope they release a XL version though, the regular JIII is a bit too small for me.

That's funny since Tortex is Delrin I used to work for a plastics manufacturer and I had my Dunlops Tortex pics analyzed in the lab just for fun. I believe they had some kind of surface treatment, which is why after a while they are as slick as the regular Delrin picks.

BTW Delrin is a Dupont tradename for a Polyacetal, chemical name Poly-Oxy-Methylene [POM]. Easily distinguished by the horrible smell it emanates when burning.

I started using Dunlop Tortex about two weeks after getting my first guitar, and I haven't used any other picks since. I think I got them because Slash was using them.

Re: Favorite pick material

WOW, I had no idea there were different pick materials out there. I was convinced they were all just regular plastic. What a noob...

Anyway, I never found a pick that would give me a tone I like. They might be different but they all SOUND like plastic to me. Isn't there a bone pick or one made of some kind of organic material?

Yeah, thats weird. Maybe they aren't delrin then. They are identical to the ones that Vai used while he was with Whitesnake.

Re: Favorite pick material

I love the way tortex feel, but I prefer the way jazz III sound. I had been using the smaller jazz IIIs, but they move around to much in my fingers, so I am trying the tortex sharps. I will try the jazz XL next.
