Re: The first song you learned to play on a guitar.

I had some sense of pitch before I could play guitar.
My mother played in bands a lot when I was a kid.
I remember tuning her guitar by ear before I could play guitar.
I would pluck the open strings and turn the tuners until they sounded right.
I was eight years old.
I guess that would be my first song???

Nah, that doesn't count, but it is pretty amazing nonetheless. Although children are usually more gifted than adults in certain things. You tuned it, but did you ever try to play that young?

I tried but my hands were to small.
Then I tried again at 12 and learn a few songs by ear, some Prince and Led Zep, but my hands were still to small to really do it. I didn't stop growing until I was 23, 5ft 9" in the end. Then I started again at 15, then I was big enough to play.

And now you rock huh?

Heck i've seen a 11 year old play better than me (on an electric though), but i suck too.

Sucks that life is so short... ain't enough time to really learn anything completely.

Oooh.... Hard to remember exactly. Maybe "More than a feeling" by boston. That may be the first full song I learned. First riff was probably "Sweet home Alabama" .
The first shred song was Surfing with the alien. Probably around a year or so into playing, shortly followed by For the love of God.

"Smoke on the Water".
Then the intro to "Wasted Years" by Iron Maiden.
Then maybe the melody to "Crush of Love" by Satch.
I built up on chords later.

It's all about having fun with music and sharing it with others.
First riff at 15 was Day Tripper-

"In My Chair" by Status Quo! (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_My_Chair). At least this was the first I learned when taking lessons. I don't remember what the first was before taking lessons.
