Re: How many strings do you use?
I'm mostly a seven string guy - I missed that it was multiple choice until after I voted so I didn't indicate 6, but generally when I pick up a guitar it has seven strings.
I'm not adverse to trying 8 - I think you start to run into clarity problems with the lower registers 8 and beyond, but I could see them working awesomely for touchstyle stuff, and for me a lot of the appeal of a 7 isn't the lower notes, it's the additional range in any given scale position. So, maybe I'd enjoy having an entire extra string in the 7th position, once I got comfortable on it. But, thhe real problem for me is to get anything decent (and my six and seven strings are nice enough that an RGA8 is going to feel like a toy by comparison) it's going to cost me more than I'm prepared to spend for something to try out. Maybe a barebones Carvin, if I could still get one without a Kiesel headstock logo, with a maple board and either alder or mahogany (Carvins tend to be pretty bright so this might help) construction, if I kept the specs simple, might not be a bad way to check it out, but... Either way, it'd mostly be idle curiosity.
