Re: Joe + lead singer

i think it would be awsome for joe to do that. he is a great songwriter and can write melodies that could be catchy enough to be on the radio.

now picking the right frontman would be be critical, but i'm sure it would be killer no matter what.

I think, the Satch. Schon, hager castronovo and M anthony would kick ass, for starters both Schon and Satch are top 50 axeman on any guitar gods list... Hagar knows both well and has a distinctive voice and would keep those guys rocking....
Remember HSAS? they were soo cool....

Re: Joe + lead singer

Good lord no! Most instrumentalists attempts to mix in vocals to become more "accessable" to non-guitar people turn out terribly! it just alienates them from the guitar fans, and non-guitar fans don't care anyway (it's not on the radio)!

One good case-in-point is cacophony! and speaking of...

I hope that means the guitar work, not the cheesy singer! ("I'm a savage. I'm a savage. Whoa-oh, I'm a savage. IN THE NIGHT!")

Even Vai + DLR was a combination of pure rock.

How about Satch & Dickinson, now there's a mixure of rockness.

Re: Joe + lead singer

I think a big part of vais playing is that he was allways competing with DLR (and also the guy from alcatrazz) for the spotlight and had to be just as wacky and expresional to stand out instead of being some compulsery guitar guy whos name noone knows. I wouldnt care much for a satch + lead singer band, it would just seem like an allstar thing where none of the musos really interact.

Re: Joe + lead singer

It's probably not going to happen. Check out this quote from an interview taken during the Strange beautiful music tour, from the vault section of Joe's site.

When asked which singer he'd like to work with for an album he said this:

"Well I hear Chris Cornell is available... He is a great singer. I think he is fantastic. Uhm... [...] I put that out of my mind just because there were all these other projects that, uhm, that come up all the time, and uhm... There was a time when I was seriously thinking about it and then I thought, you know I should really leave that up to, the, the kind of bands that do that best, you know. That... That, you know grow naturally into a situation with a singer. And, uh, I don't wanna be...feel like I'm sort of, doing something just to be commercial about it, you know."

By the way, if you haven't seen that interview yet, you should really check it out. It's very interesting. The interviewer doesn't ask stock questions, but very interesting ones, I think. And Joe gives very interesting aswers.

Re: Joe + lead singer

I don't have the liner notes handy (and it's been a while since I last looked at them), but didn't Joe play on Alice Cooper's "Hey Stoopid"? I certainly didn't have any complaints about the guitar work there...
