Re: Lo-TRS or Edge 3

You need to specify which LO-TRS - the LO-TRS is pretty reasonable, and probably better than the Edge III. The LO-TRS II, not so good, and the Edge III is probably better.

Agreed--LoTRS is a decent trem, as oppsoed to the sub-par LoTRS II and Edge III.

Re: Lo-TRS or Edge 3

Lo-TRS, like what's on the Japanese RG470s. I believe those are the original Lo-TRS'. I have a 470 with a TRS (I believe original) and a newer Indonesian RG with the Edge 3. The Edge 3 is garbage, imo.. Its not nearly as tuning stable as the TRS, and the mechanism that holds the trem arm in place is disgusting. (Not that the screw in arm on the TRS is "good" by any means.) Though naturally, the Edge Original on my 7620 destroys them both.

Re: Lo-TRS or Edge 3

Nope--sounds like you're talking about the LoTRSII. The earliest MIJ 470s had an Edge trem, then went to the LoTRS II in 1994. The EX series had the TRS trem.

Re: Lo-TRS or Edge 3

Really now? Guess I learned something. Mines a '99, must be a TRSII. I still favor it to the edge 3, it just feels much smoother to me. The Edge 3 just *feels* like its going out of tune when I push down or pull up too far.. Just out of curiosity, would an Edge Original drop right into a 470 as a replacement? I love everything about that guitar (after upgrading the electronics) but an Edge Original would pull it all together..

Re: Lo-TRS or Edge 3

my 1999 mij 470 came with a lo-trs ( not 2), was a great trem, but after 9 years the knife edges were rounded beyond repair (tried Filing down and just ruined it). replaced with a gotoh floyd, but needed a small amount of routing.

Re: Lo-TRS or Edge 3

So, it seems my best option would be to opt for a FR original. You said you had to route for yours to fit in, but they said no mods are required.. What if I got a Schaller Floyd Rose? Isnt that essentially just a floyd original but a bit smaller? Would that drop right in? Thanks guys

Re: Lo-TRS or Edge 3

And also, yeah, judging from the pictures, I definitely have a LoTRS original.

Re: Lo-TRS or Edge 3

No--an Edge will not fit without some minor routing. Projectguitar has a decent tut on it, if you look in the building bodies section...

i had to route for the "GOTOH" Floyd, Not the OFR.

didn't take much routing either, about 1-2mm where the lions claw would be on a JEM

Last edited by tyg; 05-10-2011 at 08:03 PM. Reason: added reason for routing

Re: Lo-TRS or Edge 3

both are bad but lo-trs 11 is about as much use as a hole in a life boat, what a piece of junk that is.

Re: Lo-TRS or Edge 3

I don't have any experience with the original Lo-TRS, but the Edge-III is much better than the TRS-II.
