Most Comfortable Position

I find it odd that my friend prefers to play while standing up. I cannot find anything more comfortable than classical position + footstool. So, how do you prefer to play?

Re: Most Comfortable Position

I got into the habit of practicing standing up years ago in order to feel comfortable on stage and typically end up practicing like that nowadays. There's nothing worse than playing something at home perfectly in your room, then not being able to do it at a gig.

Standing for me too. This isn't because one is better or easier than another, but has everything to do with the fact that 90% of my practice is done standing up.

This! ^^^^^
I always practice standing up and have since I started playing. The only time I really sit down is if I'm working on a really complex part or pushing to do something I can't but lots of times I stand up then too.
And if you're on YouTube I think you should stand up too.
And IMO you shouldn't wear your guitar like a necktie like Petrucci.

Re: Most Comfortable Position

I wish I could find a guitar that doesn't dig into knee, or body during sitting position.

The tele should be rounded in back some, the Les Paul hurts both ribs and knee (due to weight), and the 335 is just too big and after a time it can get heavy. The ES-175 is so deep you can't see the front of the guitar and most acoustics share this problem. If I had to work with a guitar sitting down the strat and all superstrat variations are easiest in that sense. If the 335 wasn't so heavy I would be OK with it's big lower bout so a 330 or Casino may be nearly as comfortable, over time, as the strats.

I still think Leo Fender came up with a great guitar for sitting that no previous electric had. Perfectly placed routings on body to make it fit, deep cutaways to allow higher access, and a decent weight. Standing up it's also a great guitar design. To combat issues of other guitars I just like to stand if I want to play my best and not hurt myself.

Re: Most Comfortable Position

I typically practice sitting but I do agree with jono's point

same here, you can see Petrucci with his 2 big aluminum foot rest things on each side of his rack, he puts a foot on it during complicated solos. So practice while standing.
