Was Nirvana/Kirk overrated?

I'm genuinley interested to what people think, as when people ask this question it's either a "YES!", or a "NO! GET OUT!".

Re: Was Nirvana/Kirk Over-Raterd?

I don't think they were overrated or underrated, I see them as being a good band that some like and some don't.

I personally think that Nirvana were not overrated. It wasn't shred, it wasn't supposed to be.
However I do believe Kirk is overrated, Spock was always the guy who pulled the plan together.
YMMV

What is overrated?

I say you start by spelling Kurt Cobain's name correctly.

I think you need some basis for rating them inthe first place, before you determine if they were overrated. Song writing ability, musicianship, etc, for example.

lol

What a terrible spelling mistake dude

Anyway in answer to your question - NO I don't think Nirvana was overrated. I know there are some guys here that dislike the grunge movement for it's alleged detrimental influences on the guitar playing scene, however ignoring this stupidity (IMO) Nirvana are on of my all time favourite bands.

Guitar-wise I love some of the ideas Kurt came up with and he had an inimitable soloing style. His songwriting and wordcraft was incredible.

You either love or hate nirvana, but you cannot deny that they were an influential band.

In my opinion Dave Grohl was the real genius behind that band and had the brains not to put a bullet in his head. Just look at the success of the Foo Fighters and other projects he's been a part of.

Yep, hence why I accidentally made the double post in trying to correct it.
Probably the most common spelling mistake in rock, I see Kirt spelt Kirk so often I can never remember which is correct :S

Re: Was Nirvana/Kirk Over-Raterd?

I would say they wrote a good tune and were probably what music at the time needed, but they overshadowed other fantastic bands of the Genre/time whom i'd say were far better. IE Alice in Chains, Green River, pearl jam, TAD, Mudhoney and the melvins. Nirvana (though it pains me to say it) were just the poster boys for an emerging scene.
