Re: PGM301 or RG550 aniiversary RFR?

I was in the same dilemma and ended up with the RG550. I went that way because I wanted a Japanese made RG with Edge and original spec Wizard neck in RFR, and I knew they were going to be exceptionally hard to get in Australia.

Now chances are the RG550 will not be worth more than what you paid for it in a few years, and the PGM will be because of the fact that it's a signature model.

The PGM is still in production so I know that I can get my hands on one later (and yes I definitely want to).

I have a RFR RG550 and I love mine. However, I played a PGM301 and loved it too. Since the 20th is harder to obtain, I'd probably buy that and get a 301 later.

The RFR!!! I like paul gilbert he'll always be one of my guitar hero but I just can't stand the painted F hole and the far away volume knob IMHO

RFR all the way. No silly F-holes, just a straight up great guitar.

Re: PGM301 or RG550 aniiversary RFR?

The only thing the PGM has that I wish was on the RG550 reissue is an AANJ. My vote overall, though, is for the RFR. I agree on the F-holes thing. It's nice on Paul's personal guitars but I'd feel wierd playing one in front of people. I guess I'm not a sig guy.
And some will see this as herecy (my appologies to the PGM people) but if I were you I'd get the RG550 RFR and save up to later get an RG321 or maybe that snazzy lazer blue or CA RG2EX they're selling at GC. Swap out the pickups in those and you got a hell of a fixed bridge for 1/4 to 1/3 of what you'd pay for the PGM.

RG-550. If you want hardtail, fit in a Tremol-No.

PGM301 all the way, more mojo. And I hate trems, so it's fixed bridge all the way for me.

F-holes = crazy magical powers

The PGM's are mass produced, the RG's are limited. The RG has a trem, the PG doesn't.

I'd go with the RG, myself. If anything wait a few years and you can sell it for more.

Re: PGM301 or RG550 aniiversary RFR?

i have had a few pgm models...never the 301. i have the pgm30 with floating trem...i love that guitar! the tone is really very cool with that nice balsy raspy paul tone. that pickup is full of color and character! but i also have the 550 in black and that guitar is really cool. to hold that 550, it just feels right! the neck is really perfect...like the pgm, but slightly more perfect for me. also, one thing i don't like about the 550 is that it's heavier and feels not as balanced...feels like it's back-heavy. they are both great. i would go for the 550 since i hate fixed bridges. if they were both floating, that's rough...hmmm....they are really close. maybe that's why i have a pgm and a 550.
