Re: Pick gauges?

My favourite pick was made by Ibanez. It came in white, grey, and light pink. It had holes in to help grip. They stopped making them in the early 90's and my whole world came crashing down!

OK, yeah, that was rather dramatic... but I loved those picks and I wish I could still get them. I eventually moved onto some perforated PickBoy picks, but they are no match for the Ibanez ones. How come hardly anyone knows about those superb picks? You guys are just not old-school enough!

I tried the black perforated PickBoy ones and they were pretty good, but then I ran out of black and bought a ton of red ones from e-Bay. They suck! They are made from really cheap brittle plastic and feel all scratchy and have seams on them which need sanding off. Crap. So now I'm temporarily using Jim Dunlop Nylon 1mm (black), but they sound too soft. I am about to try out some red Jazz III's but I need to order them first. I heard good things about those picks. Oh, and I like the Ibanez Paul Gilbert picks, they are cool. I had one but it disappeared.

EDIT: I can't find any pictures of the "holy" Ibanez or PickBoy picks, but they are kinda like this, only more holy.

Dunlop Ultex 1.14 mm

They don't look like they do in real life in that photo, but they're the best picks I've ever used. Awesome material.

Re: Pick gauges?

Only Dunlop Gels or Tortex X-H (I think they're both 1.14mm)

Re: Pick gauges?

I love the Tortex green shark-fin picks; someone told me the other day that they don't know if you can still order them. I think maybe they were giving me a line of crap. After the shark-fin shape, I find myself not wanting to use a normal shaped plectrum. I used to have a hard time with picks, I would fling them across the room, or lose them in my accoustics sound hole.

Re: Pick gauges?

I voted again because I've started using different picks.

Ibanez 1mm black or white with sandpaper. I like the tone much more than the Dunlop 3mm Big Stubbies I used to use and the sandpaper keeps the pick from slipping/rolling around like the Big Stubbies used to do.

They also just released the same pick without the sandpaper for almost half the price. I'm going to order some and see about putting on sandpaper myself. $5 for 6 picks starts to add after a while, especially since I wear out the tips on them.

Re: Pick gauges?

Using Dunlop Jazz III's pretty much exclusively now. Made the switch from Stubby 2.0's because I found it easier to shred really fast when the pick doesn't resist as much. Staying with them because the tone seems to be brighter the lighter the pick you use.

+1 on these - love the size, the tip, and the sandpaper really helps keep them in place...

Re: Pick gauges?

heavy or ex-heavy is what i prefer for its accuracy...never a fumble that seems to occur with mediums
