RG550 - Original vs Reissue?

So, assuming identical price, which would you rather have?

Any particular reason for leaning towards one or the other?

Re: RG550 - Original vs Reissue?

The original and the best! Because of the neck mostly.

Hasn't the reissue got the exact same neck? Original Wizard with the original square heel to boot?

Correct me if im wrong but...

No. Then reissue has a 5 piece neck that has two steel rods for reinforcement. Then Original wizard was 1 piece and was prone to warping.

I was always told that it isn't THAT prone to warping, unless unless ofcorse you leave next to a red-hot radiator for a few hours etc. But I think the biggest issue with the original wizards are their tendancies to crack at the locking nut... but even that can be avoided with a bit of common sense, ie, NOT to over-tighten them!

Reissue. I like the stiffer neck.

Re: RG550 - Original vs Reissue?

Seems like the deciding factor between these guitars are the necks. Some people seem to prefer the Original Wizard, others seem to prefer the "Updated" Wizard. Any pros/cons to any of these necks, appart from what's already been covered ofcorse...

Re: RG550 - Original vs Reissue?

To me the finish feels different on the modern ibanez necks. The original has that distinctive hard lacquer feel of an 80s/90s maple neck. Could be my imagination. The reissue neck feels like my 2550 but with a square heel and I dunno - it isn't the same to me as the original. I could be imagining it tho'...

Re: RG550 - Original vs Reissue?

The reissue necks have more of a satin feel.

Re: RG550 - Original vs Reissue?

How does the Original Wizard hold up to truss-rod adjustments etc, do they need it more than other necks?

I would think the thinner the neck the more adjustments needed. I have a reissue. I have only adjusted mine once.

I'm happy with my '91 but I'd take a reissue
