Underated extreme metal guitarists

I just like to say that the likes of Randy, Dime and Zakk aren't in the poll cause they are by no means underrated. Here are just a few metal guitarists I feel don't get the recognition they deserve. I'm sure there are dozens of other guitarists I've missed so please post any others you think deserve a place in metal history.

Re: Underated extreme metal guitarists

Hoo boy there's a ridiculous amount of really underrated metal guitarists out there. Obviously you missed some, but that's to be expected

I haven't heard a few of these guys, but I'll be sure to check them out.

Out of that list Jeff Waters definitely comes out near the top. He's an amazing guitarist, a true pro. Though he probably could be more famous then he is, as he turned down both Megadeth and Ozzy.

Personally I don't know why you added Michael Amott without Chris. They're in the same band and go together like bread and butter, with neither one of them outshining the other.

When I clicked on this thread I immediately thought of 2 guitarists, 1 is Chuck Schuldiner, because while he is fairly well known it seems as though his death was 'dwarfed out' by Dimebag, which is kind of sad. Another is Emil Werstler from Daath, he is so good its not even funny. He knows enough theory to make Buckethead look like an illiterate idiot, and he incorporates lots of chromatic and weird stuff into his playing. Look at any video of him playing and you will see what I mean.

Re: Underated extreme metal guitarists

I think Oli Herbert from All That Remains is a really creative and strong guitarist that no one really talks about.

Also, my old guitar teacher, Tom Kopyto is pretty under-rated, I think

Muhammed Suicmez from Necrophagist and Christian Muenzner obscura/ex-necrophagist. Unfortunately, because they play death metal, they will never receive the credit they deserve.

Re: Underated extreme metal guitarists

Hell of a hard poll.

I was stuck between Micheal Romeo and Skolnick.

In the end I choose Romeo simply based on the fact that I prefer Symphony X to Testament. Although I understand Skolnick's jazz work is supposed to be bloodly epic.

I also think Muhammed Suicmez is a mind numbingly good guitarist.

Very few death metal guitarists receive much attention, no matter how good they are. I'd say Muhammed is one of the more well known DM guys out there, though I definitely agree about Christian Muenzner.

Re: Underated extreme metal guitarists

Too many great players to choose. I'd throw Bill Steer from Carcass, Tommy T. Barron from Coroner, and especially Ron Jarzombek into the list.

Rock on!

Meh.. the attention he receives is limited only to the online community really. I was actually really surprised to see ranked in the top 50 metal guitar players. He was on the list with many of the above mentioned, but he was way down the list. I can't remember what magazine it was.

The scar symmetry guitar player is definitely note worthy also..
