What do you think about buying used gear?

I don't really care if it's new or used but, I love used gear! The past 3 guitars I bought were used. In the past year every piece of gear I can remember buying has been used. I must say buying used can be a bit iffy sometimes, but I haven't had any bad expireinces... YET! So anyway, what do you guys think and what are the top 3 best used deals you've gotten? Here's mine:
Dunlop Crybaby GCB-95 -- $30
ESP/TKL guitar case -- $20
Ibanez RG7321 -- $200

As long as whatever I'm buying is in good shape I don't mind that it's used.

Nothing wrong with used gear as long as you know what to look for and try it out first. It's a great way to save some money.

Re: What do you think about buying used gear?

I haven't bought new gear in about 3 years. I love that the necks on used guitars are already broken in. Also, if I put a ding or two in a used guitar, I don't feel like the world is about to implode ...on some of my guitars, the dings and dents give them more character. IMO, if used pedals work, they're no different than new.

My best deals:
Crybaby Original for $20
RG7621 for $200 (they thought it was an RG7321 and priced it accordingly )

The best deal I've heard about: When I bought the RG7621 a couple months back, the guy in the store showed me the guitar he'd just bought at a yard sale, a '64 Strat...I literally almost crapped myself when he told me he picked it up for $10

Re: What do you think about buying used gear?

Most gear I buy is used but well looked after. I would only buy in guitars that are in good nick however I do take the age of the instrument into consideration as well. I've only been stung twice over the years online but on both occassions I got refunded. All the guys I've dealt with here on Jemsite have been great. I certainly have no qualms about buying used gear and my next guitar wil almost certainly be s/h.

Good condition used is the only way to go for me, for the most part anyway. Too much markup on new and it's not worth it. Having said that, I do cave in and buy new when I'm eager to get something and don't want to wait and look for a used one.

Re: What do you think about buying used gear?

In fact, with new guitars you have even a bigger risk in some aspects. For example, troubles with twisted necks usually started within 1-1,5 year. And of course, it is better to check guitar before buying, but this is equally related to the both, used and new.

I think, new option is really reasonable only for collectors. At the moment I have only used guitars.

Re: What do you think about buying used gear?

Used guitars to me have that vibe that simply cannot be matched by a new guitar. of course, it does take a bit more sh!t-sifting to get to that one perfect guitar with used equipment than it does with new, but it's all worth it in the end.

Re: What do you think about buying used gear?

If you go the eBay route, just make sure they really have a good review/stats. Otherwise, check out the gear thoroughly and you should be good. You can really find some great deals.

60's strats and 70's marshalls for me. Something about older gear that feel like an old, comfortable pair of shoes.
