Take your pick...... I'd say whatever is most comfortable.

(Unless you're a classical student, then you better have your foot rest and use proper positioning (see pic #1))

Re: What leg do you use?

I usually use my right leg, but I sometimes use the left. I haven't quite decided yet whether I like it better or worse. Whatever way is better for you is the correct way.

Let me guess.... it's his long pointy nose that gave it away! Or was it the long fingers....

Jeff..... talk about someone dropping out of the major scene..... he's got a restaurant now and big into jazz I guess.

Re: What leg do you use?

It depends on my elevation. If I'm sitting low to the ground, I'll use my left. If I'm sitting on a stool, I'll use my right.

Re: What leg do you use?

If you play on the left leg, your fret hand is more centrally positioned on the fretboard, thus making it easier to play on the higher frets. Also, playing on the left leg allows for better blood flow when playing higher on the neck, as your arm and wrist aren't at such an angle (also prevents hyperextension or other muscle problems).

It was actually the blue pen in the pot on the table next to Jeff that gave it away. He always takes that pen with him everywhere he goes.

Has he really dropped off the scene? Man that's a shame. If he's seen the light and become a jazz man though, I'll like him even more.

Jazz. It'll get you in the end.

Re: What leg do you use?

I find it difficult to play on the left leg with a Jem because of the input jack placement- it would make the cable run straight into my *other* leg so that would be a lot less comfortable.

*take it in whatever context you want *

That's an unfortunate expression given the context

hmmm, i'd never given it any thought and i adopted the right knee approach from day one. i have tried the left knee since reading this thread and i have to agree the left knee is quite comfortable, So i stand corrected!! as for basic guitar books, the 2 i looked at both indicate the use of the right knee for casual playing.. and one of the 2 books does show the classical position with the guitar resting between both legs (on the left knee)..
