'00 JS1000 BTB vs. newer model?

Hi there!

I tried searching before starting new thread, but didnt find real answer. (sorry if it was there somewhere)

Found a year 2000 js1000 BTB on sale for a great price (US$1100, being in norway quite a bargain. A new one in BP costs almost US$3400 here).

But googling for info on this '00 model is quite hard!

Are they the same as newer js1000 models? Are all js1000 prestige? What about team.J.craft? (the case hasnt prestige engraved)

The tremolo is the lo pro edge? What is the difference with edge pro or oldest edge?

I own a '74 Gibson Les Paul Custom, and quite happy with it, though I need a guitar with tremolo aswell, as I want to play satch and vai's songs. But money is always an issue (im not rich.. more like the opposite)

I would love to try before I buy, but no music stores near my town, and have full work everyday, so cant travel 4hours one way to nearest shop)

Appreciate any help,
B.

Re: '00 JS1000 BTB vs. newer model?

The only difference as far as I know is that modern JS1000s have original Edge, JS1000's between that time had Edge Pro and yours it seems has lo pro. I will give you the general answer which is that edge is better than all the others. I personally prefer the Edge Pro and I think that any of them are fine. All JS1000s are prestige and the J craft is just a brand name for the japanese made ones I wouldn't be worried if it is in that case or not. I think for that price I would definitely go for it but let's see what others here say. I think you can't go wrong with a high end JS and this is one. Hope that helps

Re: '00 JS1000 BTB vs. newer model?

The edge pro came out (or started on js1000) in 2003 I've read. So yes, the lo is probably the one on a 2000 mod. How is it? Stays in tune? Divebomb-able?)

The seller say its -made in japan- and the serial is 0083xx, he bought it a month ago used aswell, but it hasnt met his expectations, and he is selling it cause he got some better guitar around (but thats what he says) :P

Are they any fakes out there? How can I be sure he (or earlier owner) hasnt changed pickups or the trem? Or neck?.. Beeing at an ebay like site, is quite of scary.. though Im a pretty savy online shopper. :P

The Edge and Lo-Pro are basically the same trems in craftsmanship and stability. If you can take a look at some detailed pictures of the guitar, you should be able to tell whether or not it's a fake.

+1

while I love the Edge trem, I'll always be partial to the Lo-Pro Edge. In my opinion it's the zenith of Ibanez trems. Don't get me wrong, Edge trems are probably every bit as good as Lo-Pro's but something about a Lo-Pro just has a bit more refinement to it. You can't go wrong with either trem though.

I say the same about the Edge Pro. I have many with original edge, but I somehow prefer the Edge Pro on my 1200

Re: '00 JS1000 BTB vs. newer model?

Thats right... I did buy it in fear of seeing it go to another fella

It looks very good taken care of, the only thing is the pickup switch do tend to jump to middle position.. But that happens aswell on my gibson, and there the solution is to loosen a bit the plastic top on the switch. (the original stayed in place but one day it was cracked, and a little time after it broke, so I replaced it with a "original gibson" replacement and had to loosen it to stay on treble setting/possition.

Back to the Ibanez.. Hope its real! its my first Ibanez and first guitar with floyd!.. After 22 years playing (well not active last 5)

Pd. Thanks to II Hamish II for uploading my pics

That's the real deal. BTB's are nice axes from a color perspective.

Congrats!
