The 10th's second mistake - After the chrome peel thing...

Has anyone noticed how bad an idea are the abalone side dotes over the abalone neck "binding" (or "purfling" or whatever its called) ?

Some cannot be seen at all.
And if u put this together with the "all abalone leafs" I can be just as lost as on a non-marked neck, like the JS90.
On the other hand on the 7vwh the MOP leafs stick out like a sore thumb

Does anyone else experiment this?

Im not trying to knock it, but it would seem that so much "beauty" is getting in the way of playability.

Julio

(leafs or leaves?)

The 10th's second mistake

He's on about how if the light doesn't catch the inlay on the JEM10 at the right angle it sort of dissappears, leaving you with a blank looking neck with no fret markers. IT's not a problem if you know where you're going but if you like the fret markers for reassurance it can get a bit frightning, especially at the speeds you can get up to on a JEM10.. Hell the neck on my 10 is even faster than Jay's car

The abalone side dots in the pearloid binding on the neck again don't show up too well on a dark stage if the lighting isn't just right.

I think

Heres a pic (taken on the fly )

Note how the 7th fret side dot is nearly invisible....

Jono has explained pretty well the vine thing.

Common, that's easy, it's between the 5 and the 9, you don't need to see it

The 10th's second mistake

3 different words...

"Use the force"

or even

"Learn your fretboard"

Actually these days I find a vine easier to navigate than dots!!!

At the speed I play, you can count up from the nut, between notes, and not lose a beat :rotf:

I love that cup on your desk! *The pink panther rocks!

I have the same problem with mine. *I switch alot from my LP to my 10th and with such different scale lengths I'm always watchin' where my fingers go. *

dang that's a big picture...it's taking it's time d/l'ding over my dial up connection.

do ppl actually use the dots? Here I was using my intuition like a fool!

learn to play in the dark.

It's alot of fun :mc:.

oh yeah, and "complaints, complaints, complaints". Tell ya what. My RG570 has really visible dots, has a sweet figured maple top, and plays like an animal....soooo lets swap. You give me your jem10, and I'll give you my RG. That's a fair swap. (hell I'll swap even if your jem10 has a twisted neck, AND I'll PAY for ALL shipping costs) *

That jem10 would make my DNA feel at home methinks.

man....that's weird...I'm only 17 and I only use the dots as guidence to learn crap...then after that I can play it with my eyes closed....I need to dots to learn....after that...it's easy ridin...just memorize you hand and arm posistions from where they are on the neck.....it's not a difficult task....and the 7th fret marker.....it's in the middle of the 5th and 9th as Rich as stated...but I mean...come on man....it's only 2 frets away....it's not a hard task to go "I see the 5.....2 up is 7" it'll be 2nd nature after like 3 hours of practice....

I like the 10th just the way it is thank you.

Try to not look at your hands while playing. You may find playing in the dark helps.

Rich behave yourself.
