1989 JEM VBK no flutter !

So I picked up a 1989 JEM VBK and the trem feels a lil stiff.. will not flutter.. wondering If I should go to 2 springs ? has 3 now...

Also goes out a lil if I pull UP on the bar without going down after... I think thats common... all in all its my fav JEM and ALWAYS wanted one.

Any thoughts welcomed.

Gerard

Re: 1989 JEM VBK no flutter !

Seems to be a mass exodus of flutter going around, Mine doesn't want to flutter much either, but i probably should change strings first.

LOL...I didn't even know wtf flutter meant until these threads. I honestly don't even use the trem bars on my Jems.

Re: 1989 JEM VBK no flutter !

It appears the "flutter" question has been answered.

However, as far as the problem of going "out a lil" if you pull up on the bar without going down, this is caused by a worn fulcrum. What happens over time is that the use of the "trem" will wear a flat spot on the fulcrum pins. This will cause the vibrato(trem) to move slightly up and down at the fulcrum point and will change the pitch of the strings slightly. Usually replacing the pins will fix this problem and it's not a difficult task to perform.

Sorry... I'm calling the studs "pins". I'm talking about the studs.
