This year the DNA get's 20 years old. Time passed so fast. I would be interested, which "Jemsters" on this board own their DNA 's since this time 'till today. Please feel free to post pics of your beauties.
Mine is in excellent condition, although i play her some times through my Helix at home. Double Helix meet's Helix (-;
I remember when the DNA was £3000 and I decided it would be better if I waited instead of buying one, what a mistake that was. I'll probably never own one the way the price has gone up, and continues to go up. There are plenty of DNA owners on Jemsite though, but you have to understand only a handful of members still even post here regularly, the site is very quiet these days.
They were too pricey for me when they came out, and you could buy a car for what they go for now. And I'd still rather have a 10th with its bound ebony board
Lastly we have the fact that Steve Vai hasn't reinvented Passion and Warfare and it's not 1990 anymore [/QUOTE]
yep and he hasn't really released a "guitar" album since Alien Love Secrets. I think from Fire Garden (which was awesome) Steve has changed what he puts in an album quite a bit. But that's just my opinion...
Back in the day there was no Facebook, most people no longer use discussion forums.
The guitar looks really good. Recently I've started to dislike the monkey grip though so I'm longer very interested in getting Jems. I've moved on to Mayones Duvell and the like. Also I do no really use the center pickup that much. The swirls are amazing no doubt.
Do people still use facebook? I never bothered getting an account, it was the domain of teenage girls and recent graduates who seemed to spend all their time photographing their dinner...
It might explain why I'm such a stalwart for this place
Thx. BigBazz !
Your explanation makes sense to me. I don't use Face..., Inst….or other social media, so i am a little bit antiquated. Yes it's a shame. This Forum was formerly a place for much cool guys, even Mr. Vai himself and Dave Weiner left posts here. We had several Jemfests, where Jem enthusiasts from different countries met with live bands, session and Jem exhibition. It was almost a "family".
I remember gladly this times, they will never return.
Sorry for asking, but isn't twitter or these other platforms not only another place, where people with the same interests are swapping pics, opinions or knowledge ?
What's the difference to a forum like this ?

Social media style sites and Reddit took over because they are centralised, people can talk about all of their hobbies in one place, get news, discuss events etc... They are already signed up to these services and it now fills the need that forums used to fill, so they don't need to sign up to forums. If you think about Facebook, you can speak to your family/friends, do business, sell your used crap, discuss your hobbies or whatever it is you want, it serves all those needs. It isn't really very good for specialized or meaningful topics/discussion but in terms of popularity and convenience it wins.
It's like Reddit, the Guitar subreddit is a place mostly filled by new players and where circlejerking dominates, there is zero capability for that platform to allow meaningful discussion and especially not opposing views, the up/downvote system is largely responsible for that, and the way everything branches off into a million different strings removes any possibility of a moving or growing discussion.
But it is what it is, Ultimate Guitar is pretty dead these days too, I used to be on the Seymour Duncan forums which are really quiet now, and the Total Guitar/Guitarist forums which had a huge community back in 2005 were shut down years ago.
Reddit guitar is the equivalent of the McDonalds drive-thru, by the time you realise you’ve not actually got the right burger, it’s already stone cold and the restaurant is 12 miles away.
I always wanted one but couldn't afford it. Finally made my own(sadly don't own it anymore). RG570 body customized to Jem spec and finished by Herc Fede(sadly one of his last swirls). Prestige neck from a 3120. Those were gorgeous guitars!!!
