7DBK backup which neck?

G'day guys,

I'm about to order a 7DBK and hopefully soon after I want to
get some sort of backup guitar
my main query is what neck would be most similar?

at the moment i'm thinking a used jem555 then add LoProEdge conversion
or PGM30 again with a LoPro, or maybe a beat up RG and buy a seperate neck to put on it

Anyone got any thoughts on this?

Why do you need a "Backup " guitar for your future dbk? (i hope that i understand what you say).Dbk , with its special finish don't care scratch, so i think it's already a backup guitar for jem90th or Jem2kDna.I use one as backup for my dna cause his neck and pups are almost the same.

So you can play hard your dbk without fear, and i think it would be hard to find a real backup guitar for your dbk: it's a great axe, but with no backup possible except another dbk...

Napkin has a point. A DBK makes an awsome main axe or backup. But getting a backup for that guitar isn't all that great...might as well buy either a better Jem or a DBK. If you can't afford it...try an RG or like you said a Jem555 or PG30.

A backup guitar can also mean a second guitar to take to gigs for when you break a string, or want a different tuning for some songs.

As far as similar necks go, the RG570 has, I believe the most similar neck. A wizard profile, with the bubinga stripe and a rosewood board.

I do mean a backup for string breakage while gigging

a used RG570 sounds like a good idea

I have played a wizard neck before but haven't thoroughly compared
the two
is there much difference in playability or quality?
I believe the wizard neck doesn't have the 6105s that the 7DBK has will this affect it much?

I am not that worried because the wizard necks do feel good but I want to find out as much as I can about it

I agree, the RG570 would make a great backup although, I'd change the pickups. I replaced them on my RG550. They weren't as clear as I'd like them to be.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe you can still purchase replacement necks from Ibanez but only if you return the old one back to them. That's probably pricy.

Hmmm...Now that I got my JS-6, I'll be looking for a 7DBK.
I was thinking about a PBK, but I think I'll stop at the 7DBK.

Really...I will....

I use my UV777BK as a backup for my Jem
(and vice versa)

it's only happened once that I've broken a string on each in one set. Fortunately, the second one went in the last few measures of the last song of the set!

I have a feeling, though, that Mr. 3rd eye is asking which of the lower end guitars (555, RGs, etc) has the most similar feel to the neck of the DBK. It'd be easy enough to stick a set of breeds in an RG and get a similar sounding & feeling guitar.

As far as the actual answer to that question, I have no F'ing idea.

later model RG550s and 570s have the same neck don't they?

I think ibanez are putting wizard 2 necks on them at the moment

anyone know what year the RG550 gained the AANJ?

The RG550 went AANJ in 1994 and the Wizard profile is still found on both the RG550 and the RG570.

The RG550 currently has a maple board (there were a few in teh mid 90s with a rosewood board), but I believe the pickguard will make it feel more like a JEM overall than the ring mounted pickup setup on the RG570.
