Question '91 Universe Neck Replacement?

It's a long shot, but does anyone know of any necks for sale to replace for my '91 Universe? I've searched high and low on e-bay, but so far, no dice.

?!?!

Re: '91 Universe Neck Replacement?

You'll be lucky if you find one, however, there is a thread on sevenstring.org in the for sale section about a left bad horsie replica which is being sold in parts and has a UV7PWH neck, which can be bought seperately, I'd see if that is still available.

UV necks sold on their own are really stupidly rare, you never really see them come up at all anymore.

What happened to your neck?

Here's the link, and Pauly will be able to get in touch with scott.

To be honest, I really think it's your best bet, unless you want to try and hold out for a BK greendot neck.

The frets are massacred. The guitar has had about 6 previous owners, and I've had it for the past few years, so I've put my share of wear on the frets. It actually looks like someone took a chisel too some of the high frets (A drunken mishap?!?)

One of the options I was considering was new frets installed, but a buddy of mine mentioned that new frets plus labour is going to cost me. He also mentioned trying to level/crown them myself. But as I've already stated, the frets are terrible (even my Les Paul standard has bigger frets!!!).

It looks like getting new frets might be the route I take.

Re: '91 Universe Neck Replacement?

I have a new neck but it'll cost you 3 times the cost of a refret.

I would say find the best luthier in Toronto (if it's close) and get a pro refret and don't look back.

A refret does sound like the cheapest bet to be honest, it'll cost, but does need to be done from time to time. A new neck is expensive, and there's no guarantees it'll feel like your old one.

Another option is to buy said new neck off rich or sevenstring.org, and then sell your old neck as a project neck on the-auction-site-that-shall-not-be-mentioned. As it just needs a refret, and because they are so rare, you could end up possibly spending less for a new neck + selling the old one than on the refret, but again, no guarantees on how the new neck will feel in comparison to the old one

Re: '91 Universe Neck Replacement?

Get it referetted with stainless steel frets, and it will be the last lime you do it.
