Action - How low

How low should the action be on my UV777bk *the action on my uni seem to be really high and how much buzz is acceptable before the amp picks it up

what gauge are you using? I just put 10s on mine, and right now it's at 2.1mm (24th fret) and I still have to raise it a bit. but I do play aggressively and I just need to have it high to keep the buzz off

It's all preference. you've probably seen Kevan make jokes of Glen's action

Do you think 2.1mm is low.
I have 1.1mm at the 24 fret low E-string.
I'm pretty sure I can go even lower, but I don't fell that I need to.

I have found (at least on my guitars) that seriously low action MAY choke the string. *This is most evident on my UV. *That is just my opinion. * *

johank,
nothing personal of course, but i really can't trust your strings don't buzz.
i'm a dumb, but not totally! it's physically impossible to have not buzzing strings with that action, unless you play blowing on the strings with your mouth...

i got about 3mm at 24th on the low-E, the neck is straight as an arrow, but i really can't get lower without buzz.
i checked all my guitars, and my friends guitars... same thing!

but are you guys talking about millimeters?

Nuno, you really need some relief in that neck, then you can bring it down to 2mm. When you go to 1mm you get compressed action, the buzz is less noticable, but your tone seriously suffers.

The low b (52 gauge) on my UV is good at 2.5.

Rich,
thanx for the suggest, but i tryed once to get a little relief, but the action couldn't get lower than 2.8/3.0mm at 24th with no buzz.
i also tryed to get some shims at the nut (with no relief), but nothing changed...

how the hell do you guys get so low with no buzzes!?!

selective hearing... you'd be surprised how much buzz/etc some people will tolerate in order to get a low enough action. realistically, the only way to have action as low as some people claim is to move up to ever higher string gauges. and even then, you're still pushing it... i wonder how much of peoples claims about their action is the same old 'mine's bigger than yours' argument... :P

Kasper is right on the money. If you want *0* buzz then your action will be just like Stevies, HIGH
