any thoughts on Jem 77VBK vs 70SFG?
I'm considering getting another Jem, a couple of the most interesting current possibilities at the moment seem to be a Jem 77VBK on reverb, via sellmyjem, or a Jem 70SFG from Rich.
Side note: I have currently have an RG560 from 89, and an RG570 from 89/90. And I have a 30th anniversary LNG on order from Rich.
I'm not terribly familiar with the 77VBK, but I like rosewood fretboard, the color scheme of the tree of life inlays, and the binding on the body. Can't really say I'm sold on the Edge Pro. I haven't heard the breed p/u's, but wouldn't be against something different than evo's. I could take or leave the mirror pickguard, but it's not a deal breaker. Pricing seems to be in a reasonable range.
On the otherhand, the Jem 70V SFG. I love the color, I love the original edge, I prefer rosewood fretboards, and I don't particularly care about scalloped frets. I would get it from Rich, one of the seconds he has left, so it would assume it would be a top notch player. I know it's a premium, not MIJ. I would imagine any of the common fit/finish issues would be alleviated by Rich's expertise, and silver setup. I've never had a chance to play any of the Premium Jem's, so I don't quite know what to expect feel wise.
Or maybe I just stay patient and try to find a late 80s Jem 7RB, or Jem77FP, or maybe a BSB, or dare I say, a player condition 777...
