Back plate oxidation

Hi! I have a quick question about the plate behind the neck.
I have a couple of swirls I've decided to part with. They're in such great condition, however I noticed the back plate has oxidized a bit. I'm probably just moving the guitars "as is" but I was curious if there was something I could do to help clean that up.

Thanks in advance!!!

Most importantly, I want to post pics of my collection while the group is together

Thanks in advance!!

Re: Back plate oxidation

Is this Alex?? If it is drop me an email!

As for the plates, if it doesn't come off with spit on a rag it's now pretty much permanent, with rare exception.

And yet, I still get calls at midnight and 9AM!!

My ***** FedEx lady called me at 7:15AM last month, I cursed her and slammed the phone on the hook!! WTF considers that an appropriate time to call anybody?!

Re: Back plate oxidation

Do you mean rust?

If so you can improve it and remove it, but you'll be stuck with the pitting.

Soak it in this special sauce for a day or two, agitating and hitting it with a toothbrush occasionally. Then clean the residue off with acetone on a rag.

Re: Back plate oxidation

With the Jem neck plates, I haven't found that there's any issue with the actual metal, just the paint on top of it. I've cleaned these with WD-40 and it will remove the white oxidized junk but won't harm the remaining finish. It looks better anyways.

I'm not really sure what the finish is? I'm assuming it might just be paint which may not be sticking too well to the polished metal plate underneath. I considered trying out something like a gunsmith to take a shot at refinishing one. Something like this:

I have one from an '89 FP that is in pretty nasty shape and I figure it can't get much worse than the shape it's currently in!
