the bid question!! - is it worth for an amateurs?

OK!
I play 4-5 days a week, 1-2 hour a day. (almost 2 years)
I have this fantasy about the Jem7V altough i'm not a big Vai fan.
From I heard this guitar is the perfect combination of comfortableity, blues and rock-metal
(which are the things that I love).
My gear is - 1. Live amplifier 20w
* * * * * * * * *2. marshall chorus, cry-baby and Metal zone

I have few questions for you guys:
1.Is it really worth the money?
2. how much blues you can get from this guitar?
3. how the palm-muting?
4. will I sell it after 1-2 years?

Thanks.

If you have to ask yourself that, get one used.

2. how much blues you can get from this guitar?
The Jems with the PAFs (earlier models) are better for getting a blues tone than the Evolution models. *You'll probably want to change the middle pickup too ~ something hotter.
note: the stock pickups for every Jem are listed on the specs page http://www.jemsite.com/axes/htm_features/spec.htm

3. how the palm-muting?
Like it is on any guitar with a floating floyd bridge - it's great, unless you rest too hard on the bridge.

4. will I sell it after 1-2 years?
Probably not, but if you get one used, you'll most likely get most of your money back on it as long as you take decent care of it.

PS - you'll get very little respect playing a 7VWH at blues jam - no matter how good you play - people won't get past the 'Elvis' look of it.

Yuck, breeds, sizzly nasty thin sounding things.............
I have to agree, for a bluesy tone, the Paf's will beat the rest, but I love the Evo's, they are very versatile, but a lot of it has to do with your amp too, I can get almost any tone I want out of my VWH through my rig, just takes some fiddling.

the bid question!!

Play one. Spend a day playing as many cool guitars in that price range as you can, then badger a shop assistant to let you try a 7v. If you think it's sex on legs then you know it'll be for you, and as you will have compared it to everything else that you like. I tried my Jem out for a laugh (i had told myself I'd never ever ever buy one). I walked out with it the same day.

If you don't think it's worth the money, but really like it, get one second hand (take care of it, and if you don't like it sell it on).

As far as the pickups go, replace them. Evo's won't get you a blues sound. I don't like them at all. Too sterile. But other pickups will warm the guitar up (and people will have a lot of suggestions for you). So when you try one, get a feel for playability rather than sound.

the bid question!!

I can't resist this comment to see if anyone else feels the same way. *Did you ever notice that some EVO's are hot while others seem cool. *I felt that my particular VWH was really hot but slightly thin, while the EVO's on the 90th aren't that hot, but they are a fatter. *I also agree that the Breeds have a pretty cool blues tone, but the PAF's have to be the overall winner. *I wonder how much lattitude exists for tone difference between p/u's that are the same model...

If they are all the same, I guess you have to chalk it up to woods (alder top vs. basswood).

I agree, the wood has a lot to do with it. I have both a 7VWH and a 90HAM. While they both sound and feel excellent, they do sound different. As far as tone is concerned, I get a great blues tone from both guitars. Your rig will also have tons of influence in obtaining the tones you want. *--rvj

The Jem is great for any of the above, although for that super-crunchy Metallica sound, you'll need help from a preamp. *An Evo will get you halfway there, but it's going to need some EQing to get all that high end.

Just for sh!ts and giggles, i recorded this for you.

It's an instrumental version of Little Wing I did with my Jem BFP, which has a PAF neck, VirtuAL 2 Bridge in the Middle and an Evo Bridge.

Each verse has a different sound...

Starts with clean, Neck/Middle split.
Drums in -> Neck only/improv
Melody Verse 1-> Neck only
Melody Verse 2-> Bridge only
Solo 1->Neck with blues tone (a bit of O/D)
Solo 2->Bridge w/ same blues tone
Melody Verse 3->Neck w/ Full-on O/D
Solo 3->Bridge w/Full-on O/D plus Wah (my new Boss Pw-10 V-Wah :biggrin
Ending->Same w/ wah off.

Discliamer: *This is the second take of a straight in/non-multitrack recording. *100% live guitar w/sequence. *I only did it to provide a tone comparison - I know the playing needs work

the bid question!!

yo kenny
great playing

the clean sound is a bit thinner that i thought
but it's also cool that way

the bass sounds amazing and very fat
but you can't compare the treble to the strat (in the clean part)

some notes have short sustain by the way
wont you rather icreasing the action a bit?

the over drive is great
can any one upload a short palm muting impro
i'd rather short metallica verse

and i forgot to mention
that this site is the best
great forum
