Unhappy Binding on My Universe UV777BK is Yellow

I suddenly noticed it. Are they all like this, or did mine fade? The neck binding is still white but the body binding looks like it's been in a smokey bar many nights, which it has not. Pretty much has never left my apartment. Stays in a case when not used. Is the lacquer overcoat turning yellow or what? It's a 2000 model.

Yellow means it's aging nicely.
Very sought-after you know.
I promote yellowing of all guitar finishes.

mine is a 2003, and yes the binding on the body is yellower, maybe it has something to do the paint, maybe the body binding is over the black paint. or maybe they use the real thing on the body(cuz it looks cooler) and fake plastic binding on the neck.

Mine is yellow too and it is an '03. It looks to me like it's supposed to look like that.

I can't post a picture. At least mine's not the only one. Now that I've noticed it, it bugs me.

Re: Binding on My Universe UV777BK is Yellow

Don't worry, it's natural for the binding on the body of the UV777bk to turn yellow. I freaked out when my '99 UV777bk had that happen. I ended up calling my Ibanez rep and was told that it was indeed normal because the body is bound with the real stuff but the neck is bound with the imitation stuff for production reasons.

Mine is a '98 and it is still reasonably white.
I confess it does not get played as often as it should and it spends most time in its flycase.

My '80 Les Paul Custom's binding yellowed as well - part of the normal aging process I'm afraid.

The binding of my '99 UV777bk is yellow as well. My guess is that its from the clearcoat that is sprayed over the body (including binding). Hence the UVWPH body turns yellow.

sick dude! my first 2 had turned yellowish,,, the last one I had however didn't . sort of a bummer... like others have said it sort of a badge of honor. However if you don't like it I will trade you my RG1527 for it.
It has no binding to worry about.

Whoever told you that is so full of **** their eyes are brown. The body binding is the identical stuff the neck binding is, it's a white pearloid binding, In fact, if it were true, then the body binding would be perfect forever and the neck would yellow as the plastic will yellow but real pearl won't, and real pearl doesn't look anything like that stuff does plain and simple, I've used it many times. It is a celluloid binding, so over time it will yellow, the body probably yellows with the application of the solvents in the clear, Ibanez does not use laquer so the clear itself never yellows, in the case of the UV7WH's the white yellowed because of the white paint used, not the clear. The UV777BK's are probably just the binding yellowing, my guess is if you never played it and never cleaned the board, the binding on the board would yellow too. The body binding is under clear so of course you can't clean it or wipe it, it will yellow.

Man, I feel lucky, my `99 looks mint...and I don't want it to yellow.
