buying first decent guitar. help me

ok ill start by saying im new. please dont speak rediculous jargon, and if you do, please explain it! i was looking through other posts and realised how little i know, i dont even know what a wizard neck is!

ok so my new guitar. i came on this forum cos im a fan of vai, though nowhere near as good. iv only been playing for a year, but i love it so much that i know ill be playing all my life and that one day i WILL be as good as him (if not better, lol!!)

so im thinking of investing in a good guitar that will see me well when i get good enough to be able to play it!
at the moment im going for pure speed, whammy bar madness and other such true shred showoff teckniques, i need my guitar too keep up.

well giv me wat uv got!
cheers!

you want an ibanez guitar, that's for quite sure (jackson perhaps?).

but this is the wrong forum for this question... you've been posting in the JS (Satriani Model) Ibanez Guitars - Forum

JS guitars would be cool for you, too, i guess, but still this forum is reserved for discussion of these guitars... and you want general advice.

Intonation should be ok with a proper setup, even on a rg220.

The JS neck will be a bit thicker than the one on your RG, I think. So make sure to play one before you buy (order?) one.
Well, since you're after whammy bar madness, A JS900 and anything above should suit you fine (except the 2000, which has a fixed bridge). On the 1000/1200, you'll get the additional coil tap switches and high-pass filters, which are good if you're looking to get a really versatile axe.
Any particular model you're after?

My dad taught me to make a list of my "must-haves" and then my "nice-to-haves" when considering any major purchase. Then you look at your budget and figure out what you can get that has all of the "must-haves", and then if you can get some of the "nice-to-haves" as well, that's a bonus.

For 500 quid, you might be able to find a used JS. Somebody here had an old 540R available just a couple of weeks ago.

I have found if you make a list of possible guitars you want to purchase (anywhere from 3-300!) and you rank them on different aspects like neck, playability, resale value, sound etc. Then the one with the lowest score is normally the one I go for.

five or six years ago, I had the same kind of financial situation (excepti had 500 CAN, so you're better off than me).

I got a rg350DX and it's served me well, even with a TRS. Now that it has an edge pro its an even better choice.

of course, this is for new guitars. Used you'd need to look around.

you'll have problems acquiring a js900/1000/1200 at this budget... and a js100 is not a guitar you'll keep for 30 years because the ones mentioned bevore are much better

so either save more money or go for something else, imho

the only way you will get a 1000, or higher model....is if you unload the $500 plus trading something worth enough to the seller . The only guitar in your budget as far as vai/satch.......is the Jem555 and Js100.
Unless you buy an older 540 r and then upgrade it to a Js. 1000
