Can anyone identify this 'JEM'?

Hi guys,

A dude in my area is selling his 'Ibanez Jem Jr', possibly 'custom' (idk if he added that himself since he painted the front or if its actually part of the model name. He says it's made in Indonesia, but around here (outside the US) there's a ton of misinformation on the part of the consumer, meaning I can't read too much into what he says (for example, people here refer to all trem systems as "Floyd Rose", so in the listing he said that it had a 'Rose Edge 3' lol). Im under the impression that Jem Jrs come from Korea, but i could be wrong. In any case, he could just be totally wrong about where the guitar was made.

The following are the pictures he posted:

I'm aware that Jems don't come pre-loaded with SD rails, but i'm imagining that since it's 'Custom' that he had those installed.

It just seems like a really weird way to fake a Jem, which is why i'm having a hard time believing it's a fake. Why go single coil Seymour Duncans if you're trying to fake a Jem Jr. ya know?

Anyway, any help i could get to identify the guitar would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Jem333. Could be an original one that someone stripped down
to possibly copy an Jem7 BSB model maybe. Not the best pics
but that trem rout looks a bit off, lions claw looks rather large, again
could be the pics. Trem is an Edge III I believe.

Definitely aftermarket pickguard given that it has a single coil in the neck.

Thanks.

What about the serial on the back of the headstock? All the fakes i've seen online usually have really crappy, almost handwritten serials on the back.

This one looks pretty professional. Have you seen any fakes with serials as good as this one?

Even if it is real unless this dude was giving it away really really really cheap I would pass.

Looks okay but as Moebius has said fake or not they're really not good guitars.
TBH your money would be better spent on a used MIJ RG5XX series. You can get
some killer deals on those and they stand up to the real Jems (MIJ) admirably.

Why would anybody fake a jr.
Look at the stamp on the body heeljoint and you'll know the body is a real jr or not. The neck isn't fake.

Re: Can anyone identify this 'JEM'?

Nobody said it's a fake.

What they ARE saying is that it's a Indo standard level guitar that the seller will ask for a higher price simply because it IS a real Jem. This guitar is a standard level Indo RG with a handle and claw. It's also been customized rather badly.

Like ID said, your money would be better spent on a quality, used, MIJ RG.

EDIT: Just looking around the "Mercado libre" there are not many, if any, decent Ibanez floating around Peru.........

1. They don't sell RG5xxx where i live.

2. Seeing the prices of the RG555 on Ebay, they're floating around the $800. This guitar is being offered at $220 (dude is moving and can only take 1 guitar).

Re: Can anyone identify this 'JEM'?

It could be a JEM 90 after a horrifying accident plus a replacement neck
