Can I trust this JS1000?

Edit: I decided not to buy the guitar.

Hi,

I'm about to buy this JS1000 BTB, but after going over some photos, I noticed the differing whammy (it says: Licensed under Floyd Rose Patents) and it has a plate on de 21st fret, like I have on my JS100 but w/o "Joe Satriani" on it...

Is this a really early version, or some rip-off or am I being paranoid?

Thanks for your expertise!

M

PS: sorry, but my postcount (<10) disallows me to add a visual. Maybe via PM?

Re: Can I trust this JS1000?

Just ask him for pics of back of headstock. It should say J-craft, if older then look for made in Japan and serial # starts with F for Fujigen plant. If it is made in Korea then it is a JS 100 and you should smack the hell outta him. Also the neck plates on a real Japan JS are much nicer and have a number on them as well.akjc1977

Re: Can I trust this JS1000?

Hi, I cannot post photos yet too either

You just found a 1994 JS 1000 BTB. I have collected all the catalogues since 1990 and it was listed originally for 150,000 yen or 1,500 $. The 1994 JS 1000 has an unmarked plate on the 21st plate without a Joe Satriani name unlike the JS 100. The whammy HAS a licensed under floyd rose marking as you said. It is listed as Lo Pro Edge type. The JS 100 of that year has Lo TRS II.

During 1994, the JS 6000 series was also in fashion and has the same 21st fret plate on the catalogue photo. It has a fixed Gotoh bridge. What's interesting was that there was a cheaper JS 600 series also with a fixed bridge. At today's standards, it would have been easier to play than the reputedly troublesome Edge Pro II and Edge III on non-Japanese made JS.
