can someone help with this...

I picked this up for $300 usd from evil-bay and just wanted to know if i got screwed or not. I love the jem look sound and feel. I just want to know if I got scammed or not. I would probably throw some breed pickups in it and call it done. The guitar is in transit now and i should get it within a week. here are the pix from the bay.

Re: can someone help with this...

The DY's didn't have the AANJ (All Access Neck Joint) , so you may have gotten screwed.

Re: can someone help with this...

AANJ, that's where the neck and the body connect. The DY's had a block heal joint with the neck plate. AANJ's are more comfortable, but DY's had the block heal none the less.

Re: can someone help with this...

I saw that on the bay as well. I recall the ad saying it was a Jem Jr, correct? I'm afraid it's a chibanez. If you look at the specs for the Jem 555 (http://www.jemsite.com/jem/spec.htm), you will see that it was never made in DY nor did it have a disappearing pyramid inlay.

Although it's not the real thing, you can always improve on it. Take some more detailed pics of it when you get it. You could probably put real pink evos on it, maybe put an edge in there.

Th AANJ is the curvey part of the guitar that joins the neck (with 4 bolts going through it to attach the neck to the body)

That headstock decal should read "chibanez"....

GTR-MAN beat me to it...

Re: can someone help with this...

pretty nasty fake, you did get screwed because you could buy a much better guitar for $300. But at least you didnt pay top dollar.

If it was real, id be wanting to know how he kept his maple board so clean over the decades

The DYs had neck plates because the AANJ had not been created back then. The trem is the best way to tell if its fake and that is obviously not an edge.

If i were you i would file for a refund and buy a real ibanez, you could get something alot better for that money and you would only need to upgrade pickups, I can only imagine how bad those chibanez trems are. Ive seen chiabanezs with crooked necks etc and basically pathetically biult.

Re: can someone help with this...

The other thing is it looks like the serial number has the Team JCraft logo on the back of the headstock.
There was no Team J-craft when the DY's were around.

Re: can someone help with this...

Look at the horrible fit of the pickguard........

I've heard some horrible stuff about the Chibanez guitars.
They may "look decent", but there may not be a trussrod in the neck, and sometimes the pu's aren't even functioning.

Scary stuff.
