We all know and love the satriani Chromeboy...
Well I'm happy to give you all a sneak preview of my Chrome Jem prototype
Its something we've been working on in secret for a few months now.
This is the real deal - an American Basswood body, fully plated in real Chrome... Its not the cheap spray-on chrome paint stuff, or the BRMR acrylic mirror top. It has a not too shabby amount of Metal plated on, its quite Heavy for a Basswood body.
Its not perfect, there are some imperfections, that we need to improve in future. The plating builds up on sharp or squareish edges - I guess the JS
shape is much better suited for the chrome job... so we'll round off the sharper Jem edges until the plating is faultless. I will also watch it for a while before releasing the chrome finish for sale - I want to make sure that there are no other issues. I remember reading how Satch's chromeboy developed cracks and problems on the first prototypes.
If all seems well with the plating quality, then this is a finish option that we will offer on all the body styles and customs available from ET Guitars, and it will be called "Quicksilver".
Also, I wouldn't mind your thoughts on the design for the full prototype. I was thinking an ebony fretboard with silver mirror vine, mirror headstock laminate, and obviously all Chrome hardware. I'll build whatever is the most popular design from you guys!
