considering JS1000... how to set up?

i'm looking at getting a JS1000BP.... short of getting the frets done with a compound radius like Satch, what is required to get these babies playing sweetly? i like a low action, is shimming the saddles to match the board radius a must? if so, what size shims and where might i find some? i get strange looks when i ask guitar shop people these questions... will i have to make some up myself?

How low do you want it? No problem getting 2mm low E and 1mm high E at the 22nd as it is.

those measurements are pretty good then straight out of the box.... i had a play today, i like.... good solid neck (compared to some of the thinner offerings from ibanez) and very versatile tonally

the big dilemna.... do i attack it with silver marker a la black dog? :P

i picked up my JS1000BP today... and she is a sweetie

but, i think i will seriously think about a compound radius fret level like Joe's...... so, how are Joe's done? does the radius change from one end to the other? or do they only go compound from about the middle up? what are the radii used?

i would probably also like it feitenised.... i want this axe to be the ultimate playing machine, both in feel and in sound...

I wish that Brawer section was still up on the JS site, but it's not. I'm pretty sure the radius starts about half scale, I think 11"-11.5" was the final at the 22nd. But he leave the 9.5" right under both E strings and works the radius inside of those.

rich, it's there. it's under the "archive" section- took me a bit of digging to find it. I'll go have a look and come back with a link.

http://www.satriani.com/2002/vault/

Took me forever to find it. Spent 20 minutes digging around the new site looking for a link... Then i noticed the pulldown menu scrolled down a bit further than i thought it did. bingo, archive.
