D'addario EXP120's on a Jem?

Hi all,

Has anybody here used D'addario EXP 120 9-42 strings on their Jem and if so what are they like?

I normally use standard XL 120's 9-42 but have decided to order some EXP's to see what they are like.

If i should avoid them like the plague, please let me know and save me a headache.

They're just 'extended play', and have a small coat on them. D'Addario make Elixirs, so I wouldn't be surprised if they were similar.

If they aren't as good, generally cheaper coated strings aren't as bright and you may notice a very very slight drop in output. They should be good though. If you lose a very gainy amp or lots of effects you probably won't notice a lot of difference.

D'Addario doesn't make Elixir. I can't speak for their electric strings, but their acoustic phosphor bronze strings sound and feel absolutely nothing like Elixir phosphor bronze strings, to an extent that kind of surprised me. The coating is completely different.

This is one of those urban legends that for some reason won't die, but Elixirs definitely aren't rebranded D'Addarios.

(I prefer Elixirs, fwiw - the D'Addarios were a little more natural sounding initially, but lost a lot of that brightness within about two days, and I prefer the smoother feel of the Elixirs. It's just what I'm used to.)

I don't think they're 'Rebranded D'Addario's'. I believe I had some confirmation from our distributor (Westside Distribution) that they were made 'under the supervision' of D'Addario. I may however have misinterpreted this. There's certainly some connection, I'll ask next time I see the rep.

Thanks for the replies.

I'll fit some when the Jem finally arrives....always the way, first and most expensive item bought...and always the last item to arrive :-)

If they sound horrendous i'll update this post...failing that assume i couldn't tell the difference (which will probably be the case).
