Does anyone know a good luthier to set up my new JEM7V WH...(England)

I got my JEM7V WH in November and I've been playing on it a lot. However, I know that it does need a good set up and I am just delaying it. But no more!
I want to know if anyone knows a good and trustworht luthier in Southampton or nearby.

On a side question, not related: May I ask you guys about tunning stability (am I hijacking my own post?). Using a tunner I can see that when I play a note (5th string open A) that is 100% in tune, then I use the whammy bar to make it flat all the way down (the strings go really loosy), then I check the tunning and it is down 12 cents. Without retuning I use the whammy bar again all the way UP until it can't go anymore and then I check again the tunning and it is 9 cents above the center. It looks pretty repeatable. Is it what you guys are getting with your JEMs?

Cheers,

Intini

I really just want to know if the stability of your guitars are similar. I heard of some DiMarzio springs and that it could improve stability. I am just checking if anyone know anything about it.
Please help me, instead of making fun of me! :-)

have you checked the nut ?
its a #1 culprit normally - just make sure its tight but dont over tighten.
otherwise it could be the posts need locking ..etc etc

check this: http://www.ibanezrules.com/tech/setu..._stability.htm

saves me typing

Hi, Jaden, I thought that newer JEMs didn't have these nuts? Do they have it? I read they stopped putting it in 2003.

Pfft i can't!!!!! lol!

You are very funny, my friend. Thank you. Yes, the nut is locked, of course! Here it is 4:37am now and I am still playing.

After I read some hints from Rich, I found some screws in the nut that could be tighter. I tighted them a bit and it looks like it got a bit better, but still after radical pull ups it doesn't get back nicely. I guess I DO need a proper setup, indeed.
I wish Rich was in England. Anyone can recomend someone in England, please? I want a luthier. A good one, as I also want to make some changes to another guitar of mine...

...I guess I need to sleep a bit...

Max at Cottam Guitars has a good reputation, but I haven't dealt with him personally.

I do my own set ups usually, but I used to have them done by Barry Palmer at Machinehead in Hitchin. Sounds Great in Manchester offer the PLEK service if thats of any interest.

yes youre right - no locking trem posts on your JEM - the nut should make a big improvement though.

after that try the neck screws - do you hear any cracking sounds when doing big dives or pullups ?

sorry mate - cant help you with a tech in your area - I also do all my own setups.

Re: Does anyone know a good luthier to set up my new JEM7V WH...(England)

I tighted the neck screws - they were a bit loosy indeed. But still not great. Thanks, Jaden for the hints. I was hearing a cracking sound (very mild) but it was due to the wammy bar washers, looks like it needs some kind of lubricant.

Jono, thank you very much! I am checking them both. I wish they were closer to Southampton! I may go the one of them if I can't find anyone closer.

If anyone else knows a good luthier in Southampton area let me know!

Cheers,

Intini

Hi, Projectjem,

Thank you so much! I am sure they are great! I wish they were in Southampton. It is a bit far to me. I will keep trying in Southampton.

Cheers,

Intini

Re: Does anyone know a good luthier to set up my new JEM7V WH...(England)

a jem is pretty much identical to any double locking (post 87) RG. steve is good and he is Jackson certified. he specialises in superstrats and is a quality guy to do business with. He fitted up my 7 string and my PRS and there my favourite to play.
just give him a bell or pop down for the day.

all the best
