does the jem have deeper pickup cavities than an RG?

I'm just curious, b/c I played a Jem in a store today, and the pickups weren't in my way the way I thought they'd be. When I put Evos in my RG1570, they were way too high up, and I couldn't pick the way I wanted to. So does the Jem have deeper cavities?

Maybe the bridge was higher in the JEM so it seemed like they were further away? Most likely it was because the 1570 has direct mounted pickups, and the JEM's are pickguard mounted, so have a much larger range of adjustment.

interesting observation.

On my side, I noticed that the pups on the Jem7vwh can be set low but not in the case for my 90HAM. In addition, the neck of my 90HAM seems to be set higher in relation to the body as compared to the 7vwh.

I wonder if Rich or someone who has taken these guitars apart can confirm?

When the pickups are direct mounted, they screw straight into the body, so you cant really adjust them. The JEM has the pickups screwed to the pickguard, with springs on the screws to hold them in place, and you can adjust the height of the pickups by turning the screws holding the pickups.

yea, I had the foam pieces in the 1570's cavities swapped out for springs. But in the case of the Evo's, it didn't really make a difference, as they're of Dimarzio's tall variety (as opposed to medium output p.u's), and their lowest setting in my guitar is still pretty high. Maybe I can grind down the cavities a little bit?
