Does the JEM90 suck with no fretboard markings??

I am about to buy a JEM90, but suddenly discovered that it doesnt have fretboard markings except 12th and 24th. I thinkt that would be a problem (at least for me), trying to figure if your on 17th or 18th in a hurry?? Anyone else here who has a fretboard without markings who could tell==

I've never played a 90 but doesn't it have side markers that you can use to navigate your fingers around the fretboard?

I just checked on mine and it does have dots on the side. And you get used to the lack of dots easily...unless you're not worthy of such a fine axe...

BTW It's even easier than trying to figure out where you are on a vine haha

I wonder why they gave her not a little bit more inlay work considering the price

I think that the lack of inlays was a running theme throughout the 90HAM series...NONE of the 4 models have anything but 12th fret markers. Personally, I think it looks pretty classy. The clean ebony board is very elegant. Unless of course you really NEED fretmarkers...you could always purchase a set of the adhesive synthetic abalone markers. I think they're removable.

I agree. I think it looks nice. In fact, I wish Ibanez had done the same with the DBK rather than using them cheap-looking plastic screwheads....

I LOVE clean fretboards..too bad they had to put that "90th Anniversary" plate in the 24th fret

I never see the inlays when I play anyhow, especially standing up

After very little playing time, you'll realize you don't rely on the fretboard markers as much as you thought you did. The side markers are really the important ones. You'll love the 90.

That I never understood either. With the Jem 555s being so easily identifiable by the plate on the fretboard it made no sense that they'd align a very elite run with that well-known (and loathed) marking.

The 90th inlay is at least a little more subtle than a 555's "STEVE VAI" inaly.

I've played 90's long enough to realize I NEED the inlays and they don't have.

Don't forget the pathetic vine-dot combo guys...but anyway we're talking about the top of the line in this thread...and if you're really dot-dependent you should really think this one over...because you wouldn't want to be a victim of senseless acts of GAS. (otherwise use stickers ... and suck IMHO)

Oh yeah...what kind of muppet are you when you "suddenly" discover that the excellent, custom made guitar you are just about to purchase does not have fretboard markings?
Using the words "suck" and "JEM90HAM" in one sentence is one thing...but asking US about "any" guitar without markings is too darn disrespectfull if you ask me. Now you shouldn't buy the guitar on general purpose. Unless you become a forum-member instead of some kind of disease bearing, parasitic visitor...

FWIW, I dont miss the fretboard markers on my JEM90. Any kind of fretboard markings would take away the contrast of the ebony board against the unique blue finish.

The vine inlays confuse me somewhat, just too much going on there. I have to use the side markers. But thats probably because I've never owned a vine inlay model.

I'm only using the side markers so the lack of fretboard markers doesn't bother me at all.

I think the lack of markers on the fretboard looks more classy on a guitar like the Rg6CSD1 because its body has a similar classy look to it.
