Does Steve sand down his necks?

On some pictures of evo it looks as if the back of the neck has been sanded down. Does anyone know if Steve sands down the back of his jem necks?

Yes, they are sanded down to wizard specs (17-19 mm).

Probably just the neck, don't see why he would sand the back of the headstock
