Donnie Hunt

Hi all. I'm doing an app-based history of the JS series along with some background on the people involved in its production over the years.

Does anyone have, or know where I can find, a photo of the artist Donnie Hunt who did the paintwork on the JS3? I've scoured the Internet, but given that he died in 1996, there's not the same level of web coverage as there would be for someone alive today.

I've also looked in the Ibanez: The Untold Story and the Ibanez Electric Guitar Book, but there's nothing there either.

Thanks

Re: Donnie Hunt

Thanks again Rich.

I had photos of most of the people involved, but really wanted a picture of Hunt and could not find anything.

I'll post on the forum when the app is available.

Hey man, I’ve tracked down a few of donnies buddies from back in the day.. I found a great treasure trove of never before seen art work and clothes... I too was annoyed by the lack of info out there on his art projects so I decided to really investigate
(hoping one day to put together a mini Donnie Hunt doc.. to be then collaborated into a js2,js3,js4,js5 narrated video history on these.)

Re: Donnie Hunt

Good for you, can't wait to see it.

I've talked to alot of his friends over the years. There was an office building in San Fran and the owner was his biggest benefactor and filled the building with his work. But nobody knew what happened to it. He did sculptures too which used to be on the IFAR site but I think that all disappeared. I never dove deep into searching for his canvases, I bought his guitars, but I'd hang that and a few more if I found them. I do have a jacket I used to almost fit in but then I lost 40 pounds.

That’s the only piece I’ve shared so far! I would love to get as much content as possible and have all of us contribute.. Raven may have some photos. I reached out to lots of folks, Lasner, key Ibanez 90s guys, Collectors, but I’m only getting few responses so far.. I had a good 45 min chat with his old roommate who
Was there in hunts studio when joe and rubina came to visit and see his stuff. As you know Donnie was the window guy at Macy’s where Rubina worked.. He told me why he painted the faces and where the idea and bison came from.. super cool stuff! But I can’t do this without you! You are the other half of this doc.. I’d like to email you if I may?

Re: Donnie Hunt

I'm pretty sure I talked to the same roommate. He's the one that told me his process of how he'd paint the guitars. The jacket I have is from the mid 80's and looks just like a 90' JS3 except there's no purples.

Half? No pressure there

Donnie had two different roommates @ different times. I talked to one that borrowed a jacket once but the other roommate has a nice collection of stuff.. Both have some good stories .. The roommate I talked to for a while was joe.. real nice guy! Says he’s never talked to anyone about Donnie and hasn’t heard that name in over 10 years.. He wants me to tell JS that he was the guy at donnies studio when they first came by and that he has a bunch of jackets! Obviously I don’t know js to tell him that’s 😁

Re: Donnie Hunt

I bought that jacket from his roomie, which means I have talked to both. The other is the one I had several exchanges with. Names forgotten, it's all filed, somewhere.
