Drip in original 777DY paint?

Has anyone here ever seen a 777DY or any Jem for that matter with a drip in the original finish? As if something got by quality control, which I would be very surprised at. I'm wondering if it's highly unlikely this would have passed QC and is the end result of a hasty respray. BTW, this 777DY is from 1988 and priced at $1800, so I'm trying to do some due diligence.

Could just be a run in the clearcoat.

You've got to be kidding right? You're questioning the quality control on the paint of a 23 year old guitar!

Red Flag to me. Older Ibbys have very good QC, I have seen very few finish flaws ever from that era, and most are at the neck pocket and edge route.

Expect very poor paint finishing inside any JEM grip.

If you were talking about on the front or back that would be rarer, but I've had a couple SK's that had curtains in the paint on the front. The biggest problems with DY's is the ones that have blotchy browning clear.

Re: Drip in original 777DY paint?

Thanks everyone, for the insight. Since this guitar is currently at least second owner, and since dv8rules has already adjusted the mfg year for me (thx), I'm posting the remaining pics for any other observations or red flags on this $1800 consideration. If I should repost in another area, please advise.

Ya I've noticed the inside of the grip tends to be pretty shoddy-I had a 90 Vdy that had a horribly bumpy finish.

I had poor finishing on my 77FP inside the grip. It surprised me how rough it was.

Definitely a good idea to check though.

Pics are far too small to be of any use to assess condition. If that's all they'll give you, don't walk, run.

Re: Drip in original 777DY paint?

Rich, my bad on pics. Originals are larger, so not sure what's going on. When I uploaded monkey grip (initial pic) as a single attachment, I seemed to get a better result. Any recommendations? Am I missing something in vbulletin's Manage Attachments control?
