Drop D - Any D-tuner available for Jem???

Hi,

I'm looking for a fast and precise way to switch from regular to drop-D tuning on my Jem (don't advise me to buy 2 Jem's ). Is there any D-tuner that fits the Lo-pro Edge ? Or do you have any trick to achieve this ?

Thanks !

Nicolas.

Check out the tech and mods section about the d-tuna. The problem with dropping D is that you have a floting bridge. If you block off the trem then you can acheice the drop D ability but you sacrafice tremolo movement.

I tried this obvious method....

But when I unscrew to Drop D, it's not only a fine-retune of the other strings that is required, but a full retune.

I was thinking about a tool to go from regular to Drop-D. To achieve this, it would have to.
- pull the low E string saddle up to detune to D
- push the rest of the lo-pro edge down to compensate the overral loose of tension

This way, I think it's possible to make a precise D-tuner device for the Lo-pro edge.

I think step two would be pretty much impossible to pull off. *Especially considering that changing the tuning
of one string won't necessarily change the tuning of all
other strings equally.

Kevan: what do you mean by "setup properly"...it's pretty vague.
I know it's possible do D-tune with the fine-tuner screws only, but it's such a pain. So I was wondering about a efficient d-tuner device.

Utopia: step 2 might be possible or not. There is probably a precise way to adjust saddles so that all strings are in tune both in regular and D-tuned setting, with this hypothetical device....you never know before trying!!! But the question is, is it worth????

Drop D, my solution....
I have a gtr (7V) set up dropped a whole step, then a grab a capo that I cut off part of the rubber that would hold the low "E" down. I put the capo on the 2nd fret and BLAMO! drop D tuning.

Hi Kevan,

I think I had suggested that some weeks ago. Nice to hear that it works.

Kevan,

When you do your quick dropped-d tuning, are you tuning to a tuner, or just getting the guitar in tune with itself?

That's a good point ryan, 'cause I tried this fast Drop-D metod:

- I tune regular in E, with all fine-tuning screws down.
- I block the strings
- I detune to D using the fine-tuning screw
- I adjust the other strings with there own fine-tuners screws.
At this point, I can never get a perfect drop-D tuning using a tuner. It's possible to get a "relative" drop-D tuning (ie, all strings tuned to each other, but not to the perfect frequencies), but impossible to reach the perfect drop-D tuning, because the fine-tuning screws are already full unscrewed so I cannot unscrew them anymore.

I hope I'm clear enough

So, do you have any suggestion?
Thanks for yout help!

BTW, I was wondering about this drop-d device on van halen guitar. He has a whammy bar, right? So, how this device work? 'cause I'm pretty sure he has both perfect drop-D and regular tunings with this.

Nicolas.

Nicolas,

EVH's setup works because his bridge doesn't float.

He can dive, but he can't pull up...

Oh yeah now I read about it.

So I found those devices like the Hipshot Tremsetter or the WD tremolo stabilizer. I think they may be useful to keep the lo-pro edge in the same position wether you're in regular or drop-d tuning, and thus allowing the quick drop-d method.

Has anybody tried installing such device on a Jem ? Does it relly work ?

Nicolas.
