Re: Dumb question, pulling the trem inserts.
This is what I did:
1. Take the tip of a heavy duty soldering iron (I have a 100-watt one) and stick it in the insert and get it nice and hot.
2. Screw in a stud and grab it with vice grips.
3. Stand on top of the body and pull like hell.
I assume you're refinishing the body, but you could protect it from scratches by wearing socks and placing the body on a towel. I tried this with and without heating the insert and the heat made a huge difference. I've seen other methods that used things like claw hammers but I like my way because I was pulling straight up on the insert. Standing on the body also distributes the load much more. Using the hammer seems like you'd run a much higher risk of denting the wood.
