Early UV Necks

I've heard of quite a lot of issues that can come from the early Universe necks - lots of conjecture as well as actual issues that arise.
An Example being my BK which appears to have a slight hump around the 4th fret (which tbh I think makes it play better ironically).

How prone do people think early UV necks are to issues, and how, if at all, can one prevent them from getting worse?

Some people tell me that 'case queen' guitars that have sat in a case their whole lives and haven't been regularly adjusted are prone to warping on the bass side, I've also heard of people getting truss rod issues!
I found this quite interesting, I thought some people here may know more about it.

Re: Early UV Necks

Steve Vai wrote Passion and Warfare with one of them and performed live with Whitesnake using one. I reckon if it worked for those projects, it will work for anything you throw at it...

Re: Early UV Necks

In my sample size of one, I've have no issues to speak of (though, the locking nut seems to have been installed slightly off center, although it doesn't hurt playability).

They're thinner than I prefer, but otherwise I've had no problems save for the known loss of sustain on the last couple frets where it extends over the body, but I almost never play that high anyway.

Re: Early UV Necks

Compared to the new UV777 neck construction the way that it is made now will help prevent warpage in the long run but has a completely different feel.

Re: Early UV Necks

I RARELY see any old UV neck that doesn't have some scarf joint disease at minimum. I'd give a 1 in 5 that don't show anything. Same with old JEM's or anything else scarf jointed, except they have frets that can take the cut required to straighten them out, old UV's do not.

My UV's neck is fine. If it doesn't sell, or get traded by x-mas, I'm taking it down to FL with me to have Joe Despagni set it up properly.

Re: Early UV Necks

My 91 BK nick is perfect....Not a case queen either. All of my guitars are hung in my office/studio on hangers like in a shop...I think that is better than flat in the case

This is a very helpful response.

Thanks!
