EMG 707 in Universe? - Anyone use these?

I'm thinking of changing the Blaze out of my UV7PWH because it's too muddy.
Is the EMG 707 more trebly and higher output?

I've heard a sound example (from someone on here) of the same riff with Blazes and EMG-707s, and the EMG-707s were definitely clearer less muddy. *

Ask Shannon Sharp......He has an RG 7620 with 707's installed and should be able give a better idea of what the differences are.....

I have 707's in my uv7bk. Ilove them, much more balls than the blaze! beware though, you'll have to route the pu holes a bit cause the emg's are wider. you'll also have to cut the pickguard.

I'd hate to route my UV
It's pretty rare so i don't think i should.
Can you recommend any other humbuckers?

I think I've pretty much gone through the full catalog of Dimarzio 7 string pickups lately outfitting a few different 7's I've gotten ahold of. *They're all pretty decent and the descriptions are really right on the money. *I'm very satisfied with each one I've used and won't hesitate to buy more in the future.

Yeah, I believe he was the first, in fact, I believe he asked EMG to make a 7-string version of the 81, and they came up with this. *Which he says is between an 81 and an 85.

Two Hands. You are correct about Dino. He was the one that got EMG to make a 7 string pickup. I am curious why they didn't make the EMG 707 the same size as any other 7 string pickup. I have though about dropping one into my Universe guitars, however, I was deterred by the fact that I would need to get a new pick guard, route my Universe body, and remove the pickguard everytime I would need to change the battery for the pickup. So needless to say, if I want to use a EMG 707 it will be in my Dino Custom

Man, I'm so jealous of you and your Dino custom!! *And about the sizing issue...it was made custom as a trial thing. *Maybe they didn't want to have to design a whole new casing for a one-off that may not even be a success and then Dino liked it as it was. *Anyone opened one up to see whether the extra size is necessary? *If nothing else, it makes them very distinctive looking. *They're attention grabbing. *People see them and think "Wow! *What are those?" *And then are lead straight over to EMG. *

Mmm, I heared that the casing for the 707 is actually the housing of one of their bass-PU's

Doesn't changing the tone pots to the normal ones a 6-string uses help brighten the sound also?

Man, you guys are on top of it! Yes, the EMG 707 is actually in the housing of the 5-string bass pickups they make. You can also get the EMG 35TW which is a splitable version, though it's a little less output. I use it in the neck with a 707 in the bridge. The split is accomplished with an included push-pull pot for the 35TW. Look at the EMG89 for the 6-string version... As for why the pickups were never made in a standard 7-string size, it's simply that there isn't enough of them happening that they were gonna re-tool to make them smaller. I work at the place where Rob Turner (EMG founder) started experimenting with his little blobs of epoxy, and simply put, there isn't enough demand to bother making a whole new housing. Dino's guitars were made by Ibanez with the correct hole, so no need to bother. And yes, it's a mix of an 81 and 85. Think of it as a 81 EQ curve, with the 85's output.

So is the inside of the 707 the same size as a normal 7-string PU with just a bigger housing? Wouldn't one be, in that case, be able to remove the housing, stick the PU in a normal housing and put it in without additional routing?
