Red face First JEM String reccomendations

I just ordered my first JEM77V guitar today. So excited to get it. So I need to ask. What would be the best options for strings to make this thing sound really good? Any advice would be appreciated. I have used Ernie Ball Super Slinky on my Jackson, but I want a good pairing. Thank you!

They come from the factory with Daddario 9-42.

Re: First JEM String reccomendations

Strings are a matter of preference. I just put a set of D'Addario NYXL 9-42 on my JEM and really like them.

Re: First JEM String reccomendations

The string manufacturer is pretty much pointless. What is comes down to is your preferred music style and what you want generally. I'd venture on to guess that most people playing Jems are just playing in standard tuning and rock oriented music in which case a 9 or a 10 set is just fine. Some low tuned metal (some djent) works better if you have a fairly loose low string, but that's mainly 7 string music. The only preference I have is that I dislike the feel of strings with less than 10 gauge. Nowadays I do not use premade sets a lot. The Evertune site has a really good tension calculator. Tension is what counts.

Re: First JEM String reccomendations

When I started playing guitar there was no internet, so I spent five years buying whatever the vendor at the shop offered. Until December 1988, when I saw an ad at a magazine that said "Joe Satriani Surfs with the Alien and plays with D'Addario" Since then, the only change that I've made is to update from XL to NYXL

Just need a reason to stick to one manufacturer. And it is good to do that, because when I've tried another brands I had to readjust the spring tension and the intonation.

Pretty much the same here, I've been using D'Addario XL (9-42 or 9-46) since my first Ibanez in the 90's (540 PII). Haven't tried the NYXL, might give them a look.
