First swirl test

Hello people, maybe I posted this in wrong section...

But here it is, my first swirl attempt, in very small scale. Just a 10 litre bucket and a piece of wood.

After I have seen all these swirls here I wanted to try it out by myself. So I bought borax and humbrol paint.

For the first attemt I think it went pretty ok. I had problems with water drops that but I didn't have any thing to blow them away

with, next time I will buy a can with compressed air to blow the water drops away.

I think that I need to test this out many times before trying it on a guitar body.

Here is some pictures:

I tried something similar on the weekend....did not go down well !

I cant find 'decent' Borax, the only stuff i could find was cleaning agent sorta stuff, hopeless.

I reckom i will import some Easy Marble over, can any1 give me the heads up where i can easily obtain it ?

Re: First swirl test

That looks pretty cool sandman!!!! damn good for a first try. I'd really like to see it on some prepped and primed wood......... you should include that on each test.

Re: First swirl test

Cool.
Next test leave some water drops then clear coat it.
I bet it'll be cool, it'll give a kind of 3-d effect.

Re: First swirl test

I have found that I can get a decent swirl using with borax when I use a bucket or small container however as soon as I try it in a tub.........EPIC FAIL.

Re: First swirl test

Not too bad, but has that kind of faded look to it. But that might improve if you used white primed wood.

How could it matter whether it was in a bucket or tub?

Other than you would need more paint/borax in a larger container.

Re: First swirl test

try using magic marble, no borax needed and you can clear straight onto it with 2k poly. make sure you base coat your wood in white. keep it up you WILL get the results your after.

Red face Re: First swirl test

What about a natural swirl? A swirl on an unpainted body? I think it looks kinda classy if you ask me. Like a see thru kind of thing!!!!!
