Fitting a 2003 JS100 neck to 1998 JS1000 body?

Hey guys,

Bit of a weird one this. I have a 1998 js1000 and my pals 2003 js100 has a neck I much prefer. I read something a while ago on Ibanez changing the neck at some point between 98-2002, along the lines of them changing it to a proper laser clone of joe's strat as opposed to a rough version (sometime between 98 & 2002?). So i've actually managed to find a 2003 js 100 neck this week & was wondering about picking it up and trying to fit it.

Knowing Ibanez though I foresee this plan going tits up, so I thought i'd see if the good people of this forum have any tips/know if this would work?

To coincide with this interestingly, when I was speaking to a local guitar tech here he commented on how some of the 100 necks of the early 00's were better than the 1000's. Go figure :S

Edit:

Here is the information concerning the js 100 neck:

Made in 2003
25-1/2" Scale / 22 Medium Frets
Ibanez Square Heel Joint (2.222" Wide)
1-11/16" (43mm) Nut Width
Maple Neck / Rosewood Fretboard

I own 4 JS's (10Th, 90HAM AKA 90Th, 1000WH and a 900BP) from 1998... and all of them have fantastic necks, specially the 10Th.

I had one 1000TB from 1996 and the neck was not so nice.

1998 was the year Ibanez introduced, in all Japanese made guitars, an exact replica of Joe's favorite neck at the time.

You probably don't like the multi radius feature of the prestige necks and prefer the fell of the Korean ones (JS 100's).

AFAIK the 100 neck will fit on a 1000 body with no problems. But I suggest you go deeper on this... Maybe Rich Harris (Ibanez Rules.com) can give you some inputs about it.

Regards,
LMC

Hey, thanks LMC. I'm not sure what it is with the JS I have. Compared to all the JS'S i have played it just feels "stiff" and i can't bond with it. I can only put it down to the neck somehow, it's been to 2 techs and I've never managed to get it playing the way I like after countless attempts at setting it up myself. Have played 100's and 1000's that i find great. Hell, i even resorted to fine vernier measurements on a JS i DO like in an attempt to clone the setup over.

Must be the neck, the nut height or the bridge (lo pro, and i love lo pros on all my other guitars) somehow, but all appears to be fine. Even changed the springs and formation etc !

I can totally understand that!! No instruments work and/or sound equal... in your personal case, go figure?
